Description
In 1999 the brewery was established in the ''Commanderie van St. Jan'' in Nijmegen. This 12th century monastery has since been our production location and also the place where beer has been drunk most for years. In Brouwerscafé De Hemel, the 12 taps are always filled with different brewes from Hemel. Beer production takes place in the cellars of the Commanderie.

Tap @ DDDH, medium sample, served in a tulip glass. Almost clear brown color, short to medium off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, lots of spicyness, licorice. Bit sweet in taste, spicy, quite dry. A bit too much licorice for me and a bit on the dry side. Decent dubbel, but not for me.

Forgetfu Tasting at ChrisOs. Lightly hazy amber beer, residual pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry, modest fine carbonation. Sweetish dry malts, little toffee - caramel. Light dried fruits. Mild bitterness in the dry finish. Okay, just a bit tired tasting,

Bottle shared in London. Pours clear amber with a frothy, light tan head. The nose has candied meats, some brown sugar, caramel, light smoke. Medium sweet flavor with further smoked meat, caramel, ripe berries, light leaves. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sugary, malty finish, moderate smoke, ham, candied sugars, berries. Pretty solid.

Clear dark reddish brown colour, beige head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, chocolate milk. Sweet flavour, even hinting towards a milk stout. Notes of chocolate milk. Sweet finish. Bit too sweet for my taste. Otherwise decent beer.

Bottle, thanks to John (jmgreenuk), split at Colin and the Vikings tasting, Nol, Goteborg, Sweden 22/03/14. Hazed orange amber with a moderate off white covering. Nose is apple skin, spice, herbal notes, bitter fruit, sprucey wod, citrics. Taste comprises orchard fruit, spice, dark fruits, bitter orange, Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. So so, lacks any real depth, a touch wishy washy!

Bottle at the "Colin and the Vikings tasting, Goteborg", supplied by ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a hazy straw colour with a thin white head. The aroma is big yeast, malt. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a yeasty dry earthy mineral palate. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation and a rich frothy mouthfeel.
