Medium beige head. Slightly hazy dark red body with faint carbonation. Roasty smoky toffee aroma with earthy pine nut notes. Dry-sweet roasty toasted sugar taste with smoky earthy rye crisp bread notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry toasted sugar and cinnamon aftertaste with smoky toffee and caramel notes. Lovely! Highly drinkable and very vivid, with a nicely delicate smoky background. (0.5l bottle, from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Rated twice. First at RBNAG 2007. Loved it both times.)

Clear amber colour. Aroma is sweet with herbs. Flavour is sweet and herbs as well. Very light.

Hazy amber color with medium sized compact head. The malt aroma could be more developed, it also carries hint of wood and fudge. Fair body strength, with round mouthfeel; it has a good malt and caramel flavor, not surprising though, with medium sweetness, not much bitterness, alcohol perception, and a feeling of sweet nuts.
A good beer, a bit pretentious, and definitively too expensive in today’s beer panorama.

Red amber color; small head. Aroma of alcohol, potatoes, caramel, vegetables. Slim body, caramel flavor, some residual sweetness, some vegetables, light liquorice; low bitterness, high alcohol perception. Too old.

Pours a cloudy chestnut color; the head is not persistent. The aroma is strong, malty, caramel, sweet nuts, fresh, with accent of good Belgian yeast. The body is strong, well structured, but not viscous (as already noticed when pouring), with a good malt flavor and a very elegant caramel taste, with candi sugar, very light roasted malt and very light liquorice; some sweetness, bold bitterness rising at the end, where the alcohol warms the mouth, and still with a touch of sweet liquorice. Reinvigorating. Great example of Strong Belgian Ale.

Danke an den Doppelbock für das Bier! Etwas rauchig und leicht herb startet das Bier, recht mild für einen Bock. Sortentypischer geht’s in den Nachgeschmack, der neben einem hopfigen Aroma auch recht würzig ist. Test vom 4.2.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 8,9,9,9,9,9 - 8,90

Hazy brownish orange color, just some lacing. Heavy aroma of caramel malt, dried fruit, bit spicy. Taste like a barley wine, some cognac notes, alcohol, bit sweet still, powerful. Quite nice.

100cl bottle: Nut brown with a red hew and a little fast disappearing white head. Burned malts & alcohol. Caramel, dark fruits & spices.. Filling texture with a smooth mouthfeel. Warmth from alcohol. Sweetness all around! Fine dutch product!

Bottle at Pigs Ear BF. Chestnut colour with thin beige head. Some very nice malt fruit here. bit over carbonated, but I like the clean malt, some syrupy alcohol, but good.

Bottle. Dark brown beer with a very strong aroma and a vinous flavour. Overall a nice beer.

Bottle, 6%. Very lively beer with a very big head. Almost clear dark red/amber colour. Stable, rocky, light brown head. The aroma is a bit metallic, but also sweet. The flavour has good aroma hops. Pleasant, medium bitterness with a little caramel sweetness. Hint of smoke in the aftertaste. Well-balanced. Very high carbonation, but good mouthfeel.

A hazy dark orange beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet and very fruity - I find it almost like vitamin C. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of alcohol, that leaves a dry sensation on the tongue, the end is dry and bitter with a strong note of alcohol.
