Tap at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear straw colour with lots of bubbles and a frothy white head. The aroma is light malt, yeast. The flavour is moderate bitter with a yeast, hop bitter, light zesty citrus palate and a somewhat unpleasant yeasty aftertaste. Light bodied with lively carbonation.

(Can) Clear reddish brown / dark amber with little loose head. Pleasant aroma with citrus and pine hop and some pepper spice. Medium body with reasonable carbonation. Toffee sweetness at the start with some balancing citrus, however hops quickly dominate right through to a decent long bitter finish. Overall pretty good, but seemed to lack some clarity or crispness to the hop flavours (or maybe I am being influenced by the fact it came in a can).

Cask, Local Taphouse, Sydney. Hazy light aber. Lightly fruity - a bit overripe. Juicy, caramel, light spice. The sparkler knocks a bit too much out of this though, leaving a shade of a beer.

Pours dark amber with a fading head.Nose shows some spicy and grapefruit-like hops along with a grainy malt character.Flavours include straw, popcorn, spicy hops, grainy malt and herbal notes. Pretty weird stuff there, a couple of big off-flavours.

Cask / handpump, at The Local Taphouse, Sydney, on July 10, 2013.Can’t remember for sure, but think I was poured a 90 ml sample of this after finishing my tasting paddle. If not I probably purchased a smaller sized glass.Clear dark brown to black color, light brown head. Fruity, herbal, hoppy, berry scent. Fruity, bitter taste. Bitter aftertaste. Medium to smooth mouthfeel, medium high bitterness at first, though after a bit actually feels pretty much medium. If nothing else fun and nice to see a real handpump in use!

Pours dark amber with a large, fading head.Nose shows beechwood smoke, some subtle herbal hops and sweet malt underneath.Nice smoke notes as flavours but otherwise is seems a bit lacking, not much hops as all. Finishes with a soft bitterness amidst some malt sweetness.Low carbonation, could be higher.

From a 355ml can on 6/7/2013. Pours a clearish straw colour with a big white head. Has a strong, quite pleasant citrus aroma. The flavour features pale malt, more cirus fruit, lemon zest and a subtle hint of grapefruit, with a good, firm bitterness to finish thing off. The body and carbonation are both medium. These guys are doing a Surly and serving in cans and making some rather good stuff.

From a 355ml can on 4/7/2013 (labelled ’The Pale Ale’). Pours a quite cloudy light straw with a medium head - a very odd looking beer. Has a lovely light fruity aroma, with some citrus and passionfruit. There’s lots of passionfruit and more sweet citrus in the flavour, with a slightly dry, relatively firm finish. Has quite lively carbonation and a medium body. This is a very nice beer - quite similar to a Knappstein Reserve Lager, which is a good thing. I’m quite liking this brewery’s work so far.

From a 355ml can on 14/4/2013 (ABV listed as 4.5%, not 4.4%). Pours a clear very pale straw with smallish white head. Not much to not in the aroma, just a bit of bready malt and a touch of grain. In the mouth, there’s quite a lot of sweetness up front, along with a distinct citrus tang and a reasonable dash of bitterness to finish things off. Quite refreshing but a little subdued. Could certainly knock of few of these down on a hot day.

From a 355ml can on 13/4/2013 (ABV listed as 5.7%, not 5.2%). Pours a cloudy amber with quite a big lasting head. Has a moderate smoky bacon aroma. The flavour is dominated by the smoke, but there is also some sweet fruit and a bit of caramel and nutty malt. Finishes off with a nice firm hope kick. The body is medium to full and the carbonation medium. All up, a very nice, flavoursome brew.
