Description
A small independent brewery based in Glasgow's Southside, established 2019. We value quality, tradition, innovation, and doing things a bit differently.

Simple Things is about brewing beer with a sense of place, exploring beer styles that aren't always easy to find and using ingredients that extend the flavour spectrum beyond current trends. The beers are often modern takes on traditional styles, or contemporary styles with a twist.

We love to drink big, juicy hazy IPAs with Ctira, Mosaic, Simcoe etc but that’s not what we do. There are plenty of people already making a really good job of that.

Exploring beer styles and ingredients that are not so well represented is what gets us excited. Our Big Ideas Series is where it all began; a range of styles that includes crowd-pleasing favourites such as Golden Ale, Table Beer and Session Stout alongside the more esoteric likes of Wheat Wine, Scottish Light, Peated Pale and Bretted 80/-. We recently introduced our Core Range, comprising a US-style Pale Ale brewed with only European hops and a Czech-style Pilsner. Our new Seasonals range is where you’ll find beers that are right for the time of year.

We use local and foraged ingredients when we can. All our beers are vegan friendly, unfiltered, unpasteurised and naturally carbonated through re-fermentation. We hope you enjoy them.

Can from the back o my fridge. It pours mahogany brown with a dissipating odd white head. The aroma is earthy, sappy, fragrant, spruce, woody, rye bread, floral, tangy, almost vinous, dried berries, raisin, sultana, fruit cake, forest floor, dandelion & burdock, jammy, plum skin and damson. The taste is drying, slick, sappy, woody, spruce, bittersweet, sweet - sour, rye bread, very fruity, tangy, plum compote, damson jelly, date, raisin, fruit cake, muted tannin, damp leaves, spruce, ryvita, light leather and muted alcohol warmth. Finish is fairly soft. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very interesting and quaffable. Even Mrs Scopey who dislikes traditional sahti was happy to drink it.

Can from Appellation Wines.
Appearance - deep yellow to orange (not white) with a creamy white head. Very gentle carbonation.
Nose - chocolate and toffee with some roast coffee on the edge.
Taste - rich cinder toffee, roasty mocha coffee and woodsmoke.
Palate - medium to full bodied, rich and sweet and creamy, but then with a roasty finish.
Overall - wonderful stuff, though I was definitely originally sceptical.

Can ordered from Left Field Beer. Hazy toffee brown. Thick foamy off-white head. Aroma has barley and the toasted malt with a sour edge. Chewy. Doughy. Flavourwise it's got a sweet and sour streak over chewy grains that are almost chocolatey and toasty crunch. Light-medium bodied. Slick to oily. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Enjoyable enough but I'd like to dial up the barley and toasted malts and dial down the juniper/pine.
