About
The soul of every great beer is in the grain. Established in 2006 in barns at South Farm, Alburgh, with Oak as the first beer, Grain Brewery has since grown and grown. From originally only selling beers in farm shops, local food festivals and farmers markets in Suffolk and Norfolk, our beers are now available on draught and bottled across most of East Anglia. The Plough was the first Grain pub in 2010, with keg production starting in 2012. The Spread Eagle in Ipswich and The Corn Hall in Diss followed, and who knows what the future holds?

Gravity poured third of a pint at the CAMRA Peterborough Beer Festival on 24th Aug 2016. Mid-amber coloured body, wispy white topping. Light malts lead the way in both the nose and taste, some mild fruity notes in both also: easy drinking sunshine beer, my sweet tooth liking it’s mini-sweetness.

Gravity poured third of a pint at the CAMRA Peterborough Beer Festival on 24th Aug 2016. Beige head on a reddy brown body. Slight burnt chocolate aroma and taste with other malty notes trying to get involved (liquorice and vanilla mostly): some fruitiness along the way too: pleasant.

Keg tap at the Cambridge Blue. From Grain’s new keg-only line apparently. Golden brown, clear without much visible carbonation. Flat malt aroma with some muted grassy hop. Taste is full-on hoppy, with some bitter caramel notes. The hoppiness is short on the finish but still lovely to drink. Like Camden Pale Ale but considerably better. I would, however, like a bit more personality. It’s a standard keg APA and I think Grain could’ve done something a bit more exciting...

Keg at the Plough, Norwich. It pours lightly hazy golden with a medium white head. The aroma is fresh, bright, sweet banana, nougat, cereal and custard. The taste is bitter - sweet, banana, cereal, peach cobbler, flumps, straw, grass and peppery spice with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Nice take on the style.
