“Because without beer, things do not seem to go as well.”
In 1989, Free State Brewing Company became the first legal brewery in Kansas in over 100 years. Since opening the doors at our Mass Street HQ, we’ve been working day in and day out to be a haven for beer lovers, where good beer and good food can inspire lively conversations and memorable experiences.
Our 14-barrel brewhouse is made up of some of the best equipment available to the small brewer, but we still think the most important ingredients are the care and respect that our enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff has for each and every beer that we make. And now that we’re producing bottled beers in our expanded bottling facility, our attention to detail and dedication to great taste and quality can be experienced by people all over Kansas and Missouri.

Shaker pint draft at Rye in Leawood, Kansas. The pour is clear golden orange yellow with a minimal white head that leaves behind nice lace. The aroma is cereal grain malt, soft lemon-lime citrus, cucumber and general herbal spice. The taste is a clean blend of the clean cereal malt and the cucumber coolness. The citrus and herbal spice carry the finish. The palate is light bodied, active carbonation and the clean cucumber herbal finish. Fun, well constructed beer.

Shaker pint draft at Johnny’s in Overland Park, Kansas. The pour is a clear, darker golden, with a ½ inch foamy head that lasts, and leaves nice lace. The aroma is biscuit malt, soft sweetness, grass and a hint of fruit sweetness. Clean and fresh nose. The taste is a gentle blend of the malt notes of biscuit, and fruit sweetness, finishing towards the dry and clean grass. The palate is medium bodied, nice mouthfeel, with active carbonation and a crisp, softly mineral finish. This one really surprised me, really satisfying beer.

Ever so slightly hazy golden and peach coloured body with a very thin, pure white head. Aroma of very fresh and incredibly piney and grapefruity hop notes with a lot of bitterness noticeable along with some grass and herbs around the edges. Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal flavours at first that seem to go away and fade to just about nothing along with some light bitterness and grapefruity and citrus notes which are strong, but not supported by much malt at all - this is quite thin and showing the hops front and centre. Aftertaste shows the grass, citrus, pine and a dose of flowers, but no malt and no alcohol notes - this is about the hops and from more of a dry perspective. Overall, a decent enough beer with some nice hop flavours that contain bitterness, but not body or depth - just on the front of the tongue and not long-lasting. Not worth bringing back home, so I'm glad I sampled this locally! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased a few hours ago at Hy-Vee in Omaha, Nebraska on 14-March-2018 for US$1,67 sampled on the same day in my hotel room here in Omaha, Nebraska.

Drank right from the bottle; big thanks, moody. Has a big dark presentation. Could be a sweet stout but it tries to get into the more bitter stout or even looking at impy stout with its 6% and all shit. Yes, big and almost bold, but never quite gitz-thar. Goes down pretty easy, somewhat bitter burnt damp wet fire wood that was put out a couple of days ago, just not quire charcoal. Even has some attributes of baltic porter. Gets better as the session continues thru the middle but becomes a tad medicinal in the end.

Shaker pint draft at The Peanut in Mission, Kansas. The pour is a clear golden burnt orange with a minimal light tan head. The aroma is floral, herbal, soft citrus, and a bit of cracker malt. The taste has the floral citrus hops, a bit duller than the nose, and the cracker malt towards the back which also shows some iced tea notes of crystal malt. The palate is medium bodied with active carbonation and a dry finish that has a hint of bitterness and the crystal malt.

Bottle, Thanks to Unclemike. Pours clear golden with large foamy white head, faint bread aroma wild mild hops influence, high carbonation, mildly bitter malty taste, thin body, medium finish. Not bad.
