Description
Buffalo Bayou Brewing Co. was founded in 2011 by Rassul Zarinfar and Ryan Robertson as an effort to bring Houston the type of beer they both love to drink.
What began with a home-brewer's vision, sprouted to producing & self-distributing only draught in 2012 and all the way to 8,000 barrels produced in kegs, cans and bombers, state wide distribution and 74 total beers in 2018.

An increasingly rare 22 oz bottle, this Gingerbread Stout is the 2021 vintage and was obtained last fall in Ft. Worth at a Total Wine. Wax dipped, not a fan, I work to get the cap off. Ironically I have a Buffalo Bayou snifter, bought at the brewery a few years ago, providing the service this evening. The liquid is dark brown veering into black and there is no head. I do detect some active carbonation fortunately. I find the nose to be spicy first and foremost with perhaps some chocolate. A drink now, there is a gingerbread connection. Nutmeg, cinnamon, dark chocolate and malt. Some sweetness, some bitterness, not bad for a stout wanting to be a pastry.

Bottle. A- Smoke, faint sweetness. A- Copper color, cloudy liquid, off white head. T- Smoke, chilies, very mild sweetness. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly spicy finish. O- Pretty good but almost too much trying to happen. Lots of smoke for sure and the chilies are present on the palate but not really the nose. There is a lingering spice and the right amount. I really don't get any maple other than a faint sweetness and really no berries at all which I had hoped for. All in all, this could be phenomenal but I think it stopped at being just really good.

On tap at Hughies. Pours a hazy orange gold with medium white head that lasts. The aroma is citrus, passionfruit, wheat. Thin body, lemon zest, passionfruit, wheat, straw, light dry finish, good.

On tap at the brewery. Pours black with small beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is roast, peanuts, cocoa, vanilla, booze. Slick body, similar flavors to nose, boozy finish, good.
