A light texture but with a deep taste which is mainly its bitterness. Wheat based aroma with a lingering aftertaste.

Bottle. It pours a clear, dark brown body and a small, beige head. Rather roasted aroma, with coffee, some dark chocolate and a touch of piney hops. Cocoa and some tar notes too. Pleasant flavor with a solid dose of coffee, some chocolate and hoppy bitterness, and also some cocoa notes. Full to medium body, dry and pleasantly carbonation. Lasting bitter and roasted finish. Certainly a pleasant one, even though I normally like my porters sweeter. 120622

Bottle from Alesela BBE Apr 2012
Amber, clear, thin frothy white head
Aroma of light spicy hops, hint of lager saaz hop, pale malts, light caramel malts, hint of biscuit
Taste of light caramel malts, light spicy bitter hops, touch of honey, bit yeasty.
Palate - medium carb, quite thin body, light bitter malts, slightly oily texture. Finish - moderate bitter, bit of biscuit
Overall - The bottle was near its BBE, wasn’t fresh tasting, taking that into account it seems quite a reasonable beer...needs a re-rate

33cl bottle. Pours opaque black with a chestnut hue around the edge of the glass. There is a very generous and beautifully proportioned head. The nose has dark chocolate and hazelnuts with a distinct macerated cherry note that comes through more. The taste has a lovely ’fruit and nut’ bar effect - raisins, on the outset, then chocolate and finishing on a drying hazelnut note. The palate is beautifully balanced being medium to large in structure, thick and creamy in texture and with a finish that falls away nicely. If I can be slightly pedantic, I would prefer slightly less carbonation in this Old World style as it takes a little away from the creaminess in my opinion. Overall, a pleasure to drink and his best effort yet.
