Clean, nice wheaty acidity, maybe a touch of bugs. Light saline, good spruce tip. That really works in a gose. Well balanced, this is good.

16oz @ Ryan's shared with Farees (thx for the beer!), Josh, and Alex.
Aroma: notably different from the non-BA version with a lot of berries notes from the barrel, some creamy oak notes.
Taste: along the same lines.
Overall: ok.

First rate: This seems richer and fuller than the original base. The fruitiness of the tropical stout shines, along with dark sugars. The port is prominent and the bourbon is also there, but the port character, that raisiny richness, seems to supercharge it. 8 8 8 8 8 = 8.0
Second rate: This has a chocolatey character, light fruitiness, light port note, sort of lends an off-dry note. The body is still light, the port helps. Not as great as the first time I had it but it's not bad. 6 6 6.5 7 6.5 =6.4

Dark brown, with light chocolate note. This has a lightish body, just a light fruitiness. It's okay - probably could use more bitterness for balance, or at least more roast. Seems like it needs a bit more of something.

473mL can, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma has plenty of wood—though I wouldn’t have picked out port—along with moderate roast and some earthiness. Flavour is more or less the same, with moderate roast, plenty of low-quality woodiness from the barrel, and a hint of tartness. Pleasant malt character, not great barrel character; as always with a 6% stout, why barrel-age such a thing?

Poured from 473mL can @ a hotel in Alert Bay. Near black with small beige head. Fruity roast malt, hint of whiskey character, as a 6% export stout with a hint of barrel, this is decent (just don’t go in with high expectations).

Poured from the tap @ Mountainview. Clear amber with small off white head. Boozy and lightly phenolic, messy and thin bodied.

473mL can. Pours hazy deep gold with a white head. Orange peels and wheat on the nose. Flavour has candied orange peels, wheaty malts. Not bad.

Poured from 473mL can. Near black with beige head. Roast malt, feint coffee with a hint of fruity coffee bean acidity in the background. Okay.
