Bottle. Rich ruby color with a decent off-white head and the tiniest amount of lacing. The aroma is a little woody with dark fruits and a hint of spice. The taste is malty with some candy sugar notes. Dark fruits and nice alcohol, even a hint of chocolate ?

Cloudy, pale yellow body. Short lived foam. Mix of citrus and malty aroma. Fresh juicy fruit flavour (orange and mandarin) with hints of grain. Light, but well rounded (Half on gravity at The 11th St Albans Beer Festival, 28.09.2006)

Bottle Pours out a redishbrown topped with a very small off white head. I picked up some very good spice and sweet malt on this one pretty good.

Pint on cask. Deep ruby dark with brilliant clarity. Dense and creamy off-white head. Rich malty aroma. The initial flavour starts with fresh flowers and turns into caramell with supporting fruitiness and bitterness. Well balanced. A pleasant surprise! (Served in well keptt condition at Ye Old Mitre, Holborn 20.09.2006).

500ml bottle bought at Utobeer in London. Dark copper body - almost black. Attractive bottle design. Solid dose of tan coloured foam. Peaty aroma of malty sweetness. Roasted and dark flavour of coffee, malts, and grain. A bit cocoa impression. Medium palate. Original review text: Half pint enjoyed in a perfect atmosphere at Guildford Arms where the ale was kept in good shape and served at the very right drinking temperature. Dark Island is an old ale with a decent off-white head over a deep, ruby dark body. Smell of roasted dark malts. Cask at Ye Old Mitre Holborn London EC1 19 Sep 06. Deep red coloured. A creamy tanned head. Perfect appearance! Sweet aroma of caramel. Fruity flavour with hints of caramel. A subtle bitter aftertaste. Splendid!

Bottle picked up from SH Jones, Bicester, 23-09-06 Has a lovely label. Pours almost orange like in colour, fruit hops and detected some yeastiness in the aroma. Quite an easy drinking beer, with malt and caramel swishing around in balanced proportions, taste a slight sourness and comes across as being a little on the weak side but I canβt be too critical as this isnβt too bad a beer.

Bottle from SH Jones, Bicester, 23-09-06. Pours a Dark ruby colour, with an interesting spicey and raisiny aroma. Sweet toasted malts, dark fruits chocolate come through in the taste, and the alcohol is disguised incredibly well. I enjoyed this but felt that it still lacked a certain something and fell a little bit short at the end certainly compared to some barley wines that Iβve had recently.

(Bottle 33 cl) Slightly hazy dark amber with a fine, dense almost cappuchinoish off-white head. Fat aroma of overripe fruit and alcohol. Full, fruity body with plenty of malt and some notes of wood. Quite fat and alcoholic with a subdued bitterness. A pleasant but far from great Barley Wine. 040906

Bottle 0,33l. Brown colour. A creamy tanned head falling together after a couple of minutes. Aroma and flavour "something completely different" dominated by a sourish smoked taste. A sweet smoked aftertaste. Thanks to Rune for sharing it with me.
