Cask @ Wetherspoons, Milton Keynes. Darkest purple/brown, perfect and sizeable tan head. The aroma is not particularly forthcoming; but a robust sniff yields coal, chalk, liquorice and dried berries. Taste is slight as well, with bittersweet competing with sour. Sourish finish. Nice enough but difficult to get excited about.

Cask @ Stick or Twist, Leeds. Very dark with a thin off-white head. Roasted malts are itching to get out of this one and whilst there’s a few in the nose it’s a crisper subdued taste and a touch thin.

Goodmans Fields Spoons. Cask. Clear deep amber - red beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and dry, modest carbonation. Light caramel malt, whisper of sweet ester. Tangy fruits turning a little sweeter. Dry finish. Okay.

Cask handpull at Westgate Spoons Canterbury. Black beer lasting tan head. Ok chocolate. Good condition. Not much hop. It’s a plain stout. Uninteresting.

Cask at Victoria Station Spooneria, 28/03/14, JDW Spring 2014 Fest Beer #2. Dark mahogany brown with moderate light bubbleage as a covering. Nose is dark malt, spice, liqourice. Taste comprises light roast, vanilla, dark fruit peel, dates, raisens. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semmi drying close. So so offering, not sure I’d have this as a bitter !

Cask at Willow Walk. It pours darkest brown with a small beige head. The nose is earthy, toast, roasted malt, charcoal and cocoa. The taste is toasty, roast, mild acidity, coffee, earth, charred wood and some plummy dark fruits. Medium body and soft carbonation. Well rounded and drinkable stuff.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW - London. Pours clear, dark brown with a foamy, tan head. Nice aroma, lots of toasty bread, mild cocoa and earth. Light sweet flavor, good toasted bread character, some cocoa and bitter earth. Light bodied with fine carbonation; good carbonation. Balanced finish, more toasty brown bread, mellow cocoa, some burnt earth bitterness. Nice little offering.
