Description
Four Winds joined the burgeoning BC craft beer scene and opened their doors to a public thirsty for new local offerings on June 1, 2013. Owned, operated and built from the ground up by the Mills family and friends, we are inspired by the Four Winds in gathering flavours from around the world to create our unique West Coast and European styles. We take great pleasure in the application of new world innovations while staying true to old world techniques. Motivated by the limitless potential of beer, as well as the great brewers who came before us, we aim to craft bold beers with character, depth, and balance.

Dark brown, medium head. The aroma is sort of phenolic, there's a wheaty palate. A touch of dark malt, quite fruity, again maybe some phenols I could do without but they're not that obtrusive. For brewers who don't make German wheats, this isn't as awful as it could be.

Medium brown. Dark sour, with lots of blackberries, raspberries. That's basically it. Kind of simple. Meets expectations.

473mL can, pours an opaque yellow with a small white head. Nose has some hopburn, moderate chalk, and gentle tangy stone fruit pith. Flavour is a little better, with more tropical stone fruit pith than chalky hopburn bullshit, though it’s still rather rough, especially for Four Winds. Very low bitterness, finishing gently fruity and citrusy. Tastes much better than it smells, but still lacks vibrancy and general hoppiness. Okay.

On tap at The Magnet, pours a deep dark brown with a medium beige head. Aroma is full of gentle vanilla and toasted bready malt. Flavour is roastier for a Baltic porter, with gentle coffee, vanilla, and moderate roast. Nice malty depth, with more roast than usual for the style. Very good.

On tap at The Magnet, pours a clear golden with a large white head. Aroma has bitter grassy hops, a touch of tanginess, and straw. Flavour is crisp and biting, with a nice spicy and grassy hops, straw, and crisp biscuity malt. Crisp, clean and biting but not obvious these are NZ hops.

4oz pour at The Magnet. Pours mostly clear gold with an off-white head. Dry grass and a warm pale malt on the nose. Flavour has dry, herbal grass, some straw, and biscuit malts. Nice hoppy bite. Not as clean and crisp as Zephry, but still very well done.

4oz pour at The Magnet. Pours black with a beige head. Tons of roasted malt and toasted nuts on the nose. Flavour has a strong roast character, quite nutty, some dry grass that levels it out a bit. Decent hoppy bite. Fantastic.

4oz pour at The Magnet. Pours clear blonde with a white head. Fresh grass, pale malts, and a touch of citrus on the nose. Flavour has fresh grass, cracker malts, some citrus peel. Not getting a whole lot of NZ hops, but still a very nice hopped pilsner.
