Description
Mission Brewery was originally established in 1913, but like most breweries of the time, it went out of business during the first year of Prohibition. In 2007, Dan Selis, an avid homebrewer, re-established the brand and has built it into one of the top craft breweries in San Diego County.

Bottle (from frima bier?). Pours dark brown-black with light brownis head. The head stays. Aroma is vodka like booze, roast, dark chocolate, malt. Flavor is sweet and bitter, booze, roast, dark chocolate, malt, sugar, caramel, booze. Finish is rather intense hoppy-roasty bitter. Did I say it’s boozy?! Drinkability is ok-ish. Overall: this would probably get better rating from me, but drinking this after the fantastic Wild Beer Wildebeest it feels like a real big step backward (and they are both rated the same - 99 currently int RB). This is really really boozy (not in a good way) and simple compared to the Wildebeest. Gets better as it warms up, but still rather simple and boozy brew.

0.355l bottle. Yeah, it's undoubtedly a dark black oily one this. On top there's a super creamy but fading beige head. On the nose it has lots of marshmallows, roasted goodness and it's quite on the sweeter path. Some woody tones, chocolate for sure and a little sweet licorice thing. Smells nice. It doesn't taste bad eiter this. In the mouth it's nice and oily and it's soft on the carbonation. Much more licorice in the taste. The salty good kind, next along with espresso coffee, bitter cocoa beans and vanilla hints. It's a really flavorful one, dark and perfect for sipping. Nice. 18.12.2015

0.355 l bottle shared by markoijelena, thanks! Pitch black with a thin, light brown layer. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma dark chocolate, some coffee, molasses, toasted nuts and some caramel. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty taste of dark chocolate, some coffee, nougat, toasted nuts and some vanilla, followed by a medium long, slightly roasty-bitter finish. Medium to full body, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Moreish, tasty and superbly balanced, maybe a bit sweet. Somehow reminds me of Jopen’s Houten Haarlemmer.

Black with a brown head - Good dark malt aroma - Dark roasted malt body with some chocolate and coffee with some bitterness and there is some alcohol heat in the back - The dark roasted malt and chocolate goes into the finish with some bitterness - This was good

Draft 16oz pour in The Biergarden, Encinitas on 8th May 2016. Amber/orange body, off-white head. Tropical fruit aroma with citrus leanings, taste was taken over by the citrus flavoured hops with a mild maltiness that tempered the bitterness a little. Decent.

Hazy gold beer, good cream colour head. Palate is airy, semi dry and has good fine carbonation. Airy malts, a trace of sweetness. Light and thin hops - orange and orange peel, touches of spice and pine. Light finish. Perfectly decent IPA but after tasting their DIPA and Pale Ale, I was hoping for much more here.

Bottle from Firma Bier, large sample. Clear amber color, medium rocky head. Aroma of tea, bit pine, grapefruit, slight spicy rye or something, some caramel, bready, slight herbal. Lot more fruit in taste, medium bitterness, slight bready malt. Bit dry in the finish, slight alcohol. Decent malt forward DIPA.

Small beige head. Opaque black body. Earthy chocolatey toffee aroma, very smooth, with syrupy nougat notes. Sweetish mealy chocolatey toffee taste with roasted oily notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Sweetish earthy cold coffee and toast aftertaste with oily burnt mineraly notes. Lovely! Very smooth and harmonic. (0.355l bottle, I forget where from.)

Unclear medium golden colour, small loose foamy white head, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Delicate aroma, pale malts, light orange, lime, orange liquor, grass. Smooth taste, medium sweet and bitter, fruity, citrus, some pine, middle part citrusy bitter leading to a dry bitter finish, light peppery, light to medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, delicate, to the point and easy to drink.
