Description
Mission Brewery was originally established in 1913, but like most breweries of the time, it went out of business during the first year of Prohibition. In 2007, Dan Selis, an avid homebrewer, re-established the brand and has built it into one of the top craft breweries in San Diego County.

Total Wine, Fairfax from a comically large can: Pours hazy gold with white head. Aroma is citrus, including lemon and a bit of grapefruit, along with some other tropical flavors. Taste is slightly sweet with a hefty west coast hops punch. Very sessionable and pleasant, especially when from a very large can.

Dont be put off by the oil can, this pretty good. Pale golden with light and airy head, mild yeasty aroma. Taste ntongs the yeast, coriander and some light malt. Floral, slickness lingers.

bottle - Pours amber with a light tan head. It smells of hops with citrus and resin characteristics. The flavor adds caramel malt to fairly high bitterness of the citrus and resinous hops. I quite enjoyed this full bodied brew.

Quart can from Bine & Vine. Pours hazy gold with a white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast and light fruity esters. Med body, or nearly. Flavor is lightly malty, a bit yeasty, something suggesting coriander, and fruity esters in a light way. Beginning to seem about as earthy as fruity. Tastes good in any event.

Bottle@ Kitty’s, Hki. Deep amber, hazy, thick white head. Fruity aroma, mango, pineapple, citrus, some woody notes perhaps. Flavor has citrus, blood orange, sweetness, some herbal notes as well. Smooth, high drinkability. Tasty, feels fresh as well. Nice.

Nice sharply bitter ale with abundant fluffy head. Hoppy aroma, some pine, some grapefruit. Taste is pure up front hops, tingling on the tongue, bitter abrupt hops finish, with tongue still tingling.

(Bottle, 0.355 l, at Kitty’s, 20140625) The beer poured deep golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, tangerine, alcohol and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, alcohol, tangerine, sweetness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, boozy and bitter. A boozier version of the PA of the same brewery. Lacking balance. Score: 3.4
(Re-rate, keg at Hilpeä Hauki, 20141114) The booziness was better hidden. +1 to taste and overall.
