Description
Mission Brewery was originally established in 1913, but like most breweries of the time, it went out of business during the first year of Prohibition. In 2007, Dan Selis, an avid homebrewer, re-established the brand and has built it into one of the top craft breweries in San Diego County.

(Bottle, 0.355 l, at Kitty’s, 20140625) The beer poured golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had sweetness, resin and fruitiness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, tangerine, fruitiness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was fruity, sweet and bitter. The excessive fruitiness resulted in an unbalanced brew. Easy to drink.

Another genre crossing beer. Lots of hops, in both aroma and taste. Amber/reddish body, light head, sharp hops bite, some malt. High abv hides well in the mix

Draft in The Hopping Pig, San Diego on 18th March 2014. Really black with a lasting beige crown. Sweet and sour nose, Roasted malts, over roasted malts actually with liquorice, coffee, dark chocolate and a vinous under-smell. The taste was very similar with a slight fruitiness within the mix. The alcohol was almost hidden. Good body depth and a fine Imperial Stout (not that I have had many to compare it with).

18th March 2014: on-tap, Hopping Pig, San Diego. Pours a dark terracotta red with a light cream coloured head. Nose is a blend of citrus notes and malty molasses (caramel and toffee mostly). The taste is also a good blend of the aforementioned smells, it has a fine citrus bite which sits on a bed of malty sweetness and the combination works well, with the alcohol just about showing through the flavours. I liked it.
