Description
Mission Brewery was originally established in 1913, but like most breweries of the time, it went out of business during the first year of Prohibition. In 2007, Dan Selis, an avid homebrewer, re-established the brand and has built it into one of the top craft breweries in San Diego County.

Big fucken can @ home, courtesy of Homer321. Thanks ! Pours a bit hazy golden appearance with a hug off white head. Cracker, pale malty aroma with a lot of lemon and herbal notes from the hops. A bit chewy. Kind of soapy and bitter. Herbal, woody, light lemon flavor. Finishes pretty bitter. Not exactly fresh but not sure id be crazy about this anyways.

Red waxed bomber from Imbibe Wine. Nose is light bourbon, vanilla, and a bunch of chocolate, along with a musty note. Pitch black with a small dark cinnamon-brown head that laces lightly. Flavor is chocolaty, peppery, with hints of vanilla and bourbon. Nice light barrel character.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a murky brown color with copper highlights and a medium sized foamy tan head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was somewhat rough fruity hops and a bitter pine note. The flavor was bitter crystal malts, rough fruity hops, some pine an a metallic undertone. Long finish. Medium body. The alcohol was fairly well controlled. Meh.

32 ounce can from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a medium sized fizzy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of citrus, tropical, resin, pine hops and caramel. The taste is citrus, leafy, herbal, dank hops, caramel malts. Medium bodied, slight lingering bitterness, well balanced. 600th California rating, by the way!

Waxed bomber from CraftBeerKings/Plaza Mkt. Pours very dark brown/black with a slight dark tan head. Aroma is bourbon, chocolate and a hint of ethanol. Seems full bodied. The bourbon is pretty strong, and it’s quickly followed by chocolate. The alcohol is clearly in the flavor profile. I’m thinking it interferes with flavor enjoyment, but that might be just me. No question this is a hearty, tasty IS. Not getting wood/oak as such, just an astringency which seems to come from wood/oak. Lots going on with this.
