Description
Mission Brewery was originally established in 1913, but like most breweries of the time, it went out of business during the first year of Prohibition. In 2007, Dan Selis, an avid homebrewer, re-established the brand and has built it into one of the top craft breweries in San Diego County.

Bottle - Big malts with a ton of grapefruit hops. Clear copper with a nice rich beige head. Hops, malts and booze which has a boozey finish then goes sweet. This beer seems a bit disjointed, where each component is fighting rather than working together.

12oz bottle pours with a clear gold body that supports a thin bright white head. The aroma offers up sweet malts, grainy malts, sweet lime candy and then a bit of floral hops. The taste is similar with a mix of sweet sugary malts, floral hops and sweet lime hard candy with some grainy malts coming to the surface a moment later. The hops do get more bitter to midway but not enough to overcome the sweetness. Not that great, this is just too sweet and it lacks the crispness and lightness of a good example of the style. I’ll need to re-do this one fresh on tap when I get a chance.

12oz bottle pours with a clear deep ruby red body that supports an off white head of foam. The aroma has some malts, roasted malts, slivers of cherry and then prune like dark fruity esters as well as a mix of resiny somewhat pine hops and booze. The taste begins with bitter pine hops, some roasted malts and then growing into resiny pine hop nuanced sweet dark fruity esters and sweet malts. It stays nice and bitter right into the boozy finish. Nice big big red ale.
