Description
Mission Brewery was originally established in 1913, but like most breweries of the time, it went out of business during the first year of Prohibition. In 2007, Dan Selis, an avid homebrewer, re-established the brand and has built it into one of the top craft breweries in San Diego County.

22 oz. bottle, sent from Neillago (thanks a lot, Neil), pours a fairly clear dark copper orange with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out fairly subtle notes of piney hops, a little resin, and caramel malt. Flavour brings out loads of resinous hops, some slightly sweet residual sugars, caramel malt, and a small hint of grapefruit. Fairly restrained for a IIPA, with a solid malt backbone holding this together without being cloyingly sweet. Very good.

Ok, on tap at the bocktown, nice place. CleaRLY YELLOW. bUT, WITH A NICE HEAD. bARELY ANY SMELL BUT DOES HAVE A a cleary IPA aroma. Recently changed over tap so please forgive the ratings. Slaggy, and mildy hoppy7. Never quite gets to that rude IPA shit. Easy to take but there is this slightly unforgivable uncivilized background about it. The finish is certainly bitter but does not linger too long.

Rare beer, especially from a bottle? Hey, if you like these kinda a beers, its terribly on style, take my word for it; don’t get bent outa shape about my numbers. Pours a little viscous into the glass. Smell is thick and permeating. First taste is punch you inda mouth, kick you in the palate, kiss your warming throat and gullet goodbye. Crazy fuming volatile wafting aroma smacks your olfactory. A very violent beer, that is until its alky effect starts to edge in. I think I’m feeling a little dizzy, should have had a bite to eat before this, wew. This stuff is rated at 11% but it feels like 15. Numbers are for my enjoyment only. Again, this is a really in style American strong arm, oops I mean ale, heheh

12 oz. bottle purchased at Oliver’s Beverage Center, Albany, NY. No bottle date anywhere to be found. Sure it sat for a while since I bought it in July. Anyhow, thick opaque black with huge beige head slowly fading to a thin ring. Aroma is light roast, licorice and dark fruits. Flavor is an extension of the aroma with a strong boozy finish. The alcohol burn after the sip is pretty strong leaving huge warming sensation after the sip. After looking at all the parts of this brew, I still enjoyed it rather much.

Cloudy gold - almost no lace, despite an initially fizzy body - nose of clove, over-ripe apples, melon rind, mildly peppery phenols - carbonation is a bit fizzy and rough in the mouth - not the creamy texture you want from the style - flavor is yeasty and medium sweet - moderate clove, apple, a bit of spiciness - finish is kind of sweet, with very milx white pepper - has a lot of potential, but doesn’t come together as well as it could.

Bottle, 12oz. A hazy, golden beer with some micro floaties, topped by a dense, off-white head. Sweetish nose with fruityness. Orange, too much crystal malts, some cheesy notes and a touch of sugar in the aroma. Full body, almost sticky on the palate. Oranges, sweetness, crystal malt and some generic fruityness in the flavor. Too low on bitterness compared to the sweetness. Lasting sweet and finally bitter finish. Sort of disappointing considering where it’s from. 130810
