Description
Mission Brewery was originally established in 1913, but like most breweries of the time, it went out of business during the first year of Prohibition. In 2007, Dan Selis, an avid homebrewer, re-established the brand and has built it into one of the top craft breweries in San Diego County.

Pours deep amber with a large, lasting head.Aroma of pine, fruity confectionery, floral hops and some clean malt underneath. Also some toasty malt.More interesting malt as flavours along with harsh pine and grassy hops followed by hot booze.Carbonation could be higher.

Bottle at the ChrisO Flags of Many Nations Easter Tasting - London. Big thanks to K-Bird for this impy stout. Pours oily black with a fine, light brown cream head. Charred-roasted malt nose, some burnt marshmallow. Medium to big sweet flavor with cocoa, moderate roast, faint raisins and other dark fruits, light alcohol, char. Medium to full bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Warming finish with further charred malts, light burnt meat, dark chocolate, burnt earth bitterness, dark sugars. Nice.

Sample at The Daily Growler. Pours a clear pale orange-yellow color with a medium white head that evaporates steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of grassy hops, citrus and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of floral hops, grapefruit and toasted malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a short herbal hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle. Black with a brown head that fades to less than a coat. Aroma is roasty with coffee, chocolate and treacle, blackberries and licorice. Oily, low carbonation. Fudgy sweet with coffee, coffee, dark roast that struggles a little to break through the sweetness, bright hoppy citrus flavours that lighten things towards the end. More of that and/or less leaden sweetness would be good, but pretty good.

Bottle. Amber with a beige head. Aroma of bread crusts and nuts. Light bodied, getting towards watery. Mild caramel sweetness, spicy bitterness. Really rather empty before that finish, but pleasant and refreshing.
