Beautiful amber color, with a big creamy head. Sweet and fruity aroma (mango? apricot?) Then some herbal hop comes out. Good body structure, with sweet toffee flavor, and a fruity bitterness, but not extreme. Very good.

Didn’t like this much the first time around...accidentally bought another bottle. Dull amber and hazy. Not much head to speak of. The aroma is vaguely fruity. Tastes alcoholic, a bit hoppy, moderately bitter. Like an oxidized barley wine or something...just can’t get any good luck with this beer. Or maybe, I just don’t like the beer. Same score as before.

Courtesy of CigarCityBrew. Pours crystal clear copper with tan head. The aroma is a bit of pine hops and malts to go along with cherry and dark fruity notes that I’m just able to identify before I must pull my nose away due to the aversion reflex caused by a snoot full of alcohol heat. The taste is mostly sweetness moving into cherry and sweet strawberry dark fruitiness. To midway and the finish sweet sticky malts surface along with a moderate level of pine hop – like flavor. It gets mildly medicinal for a moment or two before the sweet dark fruity esters take it to the finish. A bit warming too. Comes up way short on hops for the label stated style, IIPA, that I’m used to. I’ve had a couple dozen barleywines hoppier than this.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of nicolascage. Clear, dark brown with a reddish hue and a rough, off-white head. Vinous aroma of roasted malts. Full body rich in sweet, roasted malt, some dried fruit - prunes in particular - and a subdued bitternes. Pleasant alright. 201107

RB#2222: 22 fl oz bottle. Pours deep brown to black and with a dense light brown head. Roasted malt, chocolate and slight hoppy aroma. Flavour is dry liqourice and slight roasted malt flavour, but dominated by liqourice. Finish holds a nice hoppy bitterness breaking the dark malt and liqourice note. Nice one.

A hazy amber ale with a very thin white head. A pleasant mineral floral hops a roma with light biscuitty malts. In mouth, a good malt base with resinous hops, light vanilla points, grapefruit and light alcohol in final. A good IPA but rather thin for a I2PA. Bottle bought at Bevmo, Sacramento, August 2005.

This is rated a little lower than I expected. I enjoyed the intense flavors. Bitter and full flavored hops. Gold color, and the bitter hops are balanced by sweet malt.

Pours bright gold into a Trappist glass. Bright white head quickly recedes to skim surface. Belgian yeast aromas. Sharp and crisp upfront although slightly chalky. Lasting bitter finish. Alcohol well hidden, but felt...certainly not a dubbel, but classifications aside has a nice crisp flavor.

Why not a porter? It does have considerable hops. The aroma has quite of a bit of chocolate and and light coffee. Flavor is medium sweet with roasted malt and more chocolate. Very smooth on the palate.
