Description
Somewhere out in Colorado, in the year nineteen hundred and ninety-five, two guys named Dave and Bill learned that while they loved gulping down good beer, they weren’t yet old enough to buy it. They figured an answer to their quandary would appear if they drank enough and listened to enough thinking music, also known as Ska. On the second Skaturday of Skatember it hit them. If they brewed their own beer they’d have all the beer they could ever want. And while they were at it, why not brew the most magnificent suds ever quaffed in their neck of the woods…or any other neck for that matter.

Loose bottle from Sam’s Wines, Downers Grove, Bottled Dec. 05. Pours a bi-i-i-t too much head into a narrow glass. Sweet malty smell underneath as it settles. Head does assume interesting patterns as I pour a little more in. Beer itself looks rather pale even as ambers go. Taste, though, comes across a bit thin and watery. Any expectation of malt I had were let down here. Something of grape or apple juice comes out, perhaps it finished a bit dry. Hop bitterness is nondescript.

Loose bottle from Sam’s Wines, Downers Grove. Definitely the American brewpub style of blond ale. Pours a big rocky head. Yellow body, kind of hazy with lots of floaties. Crisp and kind of lemony, with that bit of honey peeking through. Basic noble hop component. A good beginner’s craft beer. Date notch says it was bottled in October, so it’s held up OK.

Thanks to Whaleman for this one! This pours dark brown and lifts up a light-brown head that disappates quickly. Nutty malt aroma with chocolate and some caramel. Smooth sweet start and the roast malts add to some bitterness at the finish. A bit thin bodied for a Baltic Porter to me.

Pour is a complete black with a small tan head. Aroma on this one is all things chocolate and coffee. Flavor is much of the same, dark chocolate with coffee and some alcohol showing up in the end. The best brew by far from this brewer.

Pour is a cloudy yellow with a huge white head. Aroma is vanilla and honey sweetness. Flavor is creamy but very watery. Nothing really going on here. Another bland brew from this brewer

Dark pour with minimal head that quickly dissolves. Aroma of coffee, chocoate on top of a slightly smoky note. The flavor is also one of coffree and chocolate with a slight sweet underbelly and a slightly bitter aftertaste. Body between thin and medium — too thin for an imperial. In fact, this tastes more like a porter than a Baltic porter with flavors too subdued.

Pour is a amber red with a nice hazyness. Aroma is very nice. Lots of malts and the hops really stand out. Flavor is slight citrus and some malts used. Overall kinda tasty and prob one of the best from this brewer.

Pour is a orange with no head at all. Aroma is hoppy and getting me in the mood for a good IIPA. All things good about this one stop there. Flavor is a very sweet caramel and no hops stand out what so ever. Very plain, watery and the alcohol got in the way at the end. I was so looking forward to this considering the packaging but I guess you can’t judge a beer by it’s cover.

A little light on the body for my taste, but otherwise an enjoyable porter. Aroma of caramel malts with hints of chocolate, nuts. Flavors of the toasted malts, chocolate, caramel with hint of nuts. Slight bitter notes behind all this.
