Description
Port City Brewing Company is an award-winning craft brewery and proud producer of an exciting line of hand-made, great quality, locally crafted beers. Its name comes from Alexandria's rich and colorful origins as an important colonial seaport and later, a major brewing center home to the largest brewery in the southern United States. Port City Brewing Company is proud to revive, celebrate, and continue this rich brewing tradition right outside of our Nation's Capital.

Super hazy amber coloured body with a dense, three centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of bright grassy and herbal hops with a large rye-based malt nose and a lot of alcohol seemingly from the smell, even though 4,5% is printed on the front. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong rye flavours up front with a big hop flavour of grass, herbs and tropical fruits and a subdued yet earthy malt noticeable at the trailing end. Aftertaste is rich, yet light and showing a herbal note as well, but the hops are flavourful as well. Overall, a surprisingly nice balanced and unique beer that shows both a Light IPA quality and some of specialty grains (in this case, rye), while still remaining light and not cloying the slightest. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 17-May-2015 for US$2,24 sampled at home in Washington just hours after returning from one of the premier beer states (Michigan) to realise that Virginia and Washington have nothing on any real beer-making centre.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Arielβs place. Thanks Shmupi. Dark brown to black with a small tan beige head. Aroma of roast, chocolate, caramel, some nuts, a fruity note. Sweetish flavor with chocolate, nuts, roast, caramel, and a bitterish finish. Medium-bodied, rounded. Good stuff.

Cask at GBBF 2015. It pours near opaque dark brown with a tiny, bubbly tan head. The nose is rich, vinous, red grape, tannins, jammy, fruit compote and stewed plum. The taste is rich, bitter-sweet, dry, vinous, warming booze, oily, vanilla, charred wood, tannins and earth with a rich, vinous finish. Full body and fine carbonation. Good depth and great wine character. Very nice indeed.
