Full goblet pour on draft at Glen’s Garden Market. Brewed exclusively for DC Beer Week. Dark amber with beige head. Aromas of toast, citrus, stone fruit. Tastes of toast, citrus, light floral notes. Medium body with a dry finish.

Special, limited version of Colossal I, aged on red wine barrels; at GBBF 2015. Loose and coarse, light beige head, colour almost opaquely black. Rich and vinous aroma, a lot of red wine coming through, mingling with the beer, wood, vanilla, black chocolate, raisins, sweet cherries... Very inviting. Intense flavour, fruity yeastiness (feeling a bit Belgian indeed), thick and ’fluffy’ body, very vinous with the red wine being very apparent as a tart and ’added fruity’ flavour, caramelly, nutty and chocolatey malts in the basis, tingling alcohol already present in the first sip and needless to say, increasing in the finish, drying along with the roasted bitterness, the woody tannins and the coarse flavour of the red wine itself. Too much wine in this one, to my taste at least; it is not because you put an average imperial stout in some barrel which has contained another alcoholic beverage, that a masterpiece automatically comes out of it. Still, a complicated and warming sipper, well worth giving a try.

Draft at the brewery during DC Beer Week. Pours a cloudy amber-red color with a small, wispy off-white head. Aroma smells a bit like a pretzel, surprisingly enough. Light, sweet malts. Sweetness comes through, but retains a pretty tasty light hop character in the flavor. Hits the spot surprisingly. I don’t usually like red ales.

On tap at Boundary Stones 2015 Battle of the Barrel Aged Beers event. Pour a murky deep brown with some thick brown head. Nose has a lot of barrel, caramel, vanilla, coconut, wood, malt. Flavor is a bit cola sweet, brown sugar, vanillin, booze, caramel. Thick, sweet finish. Got my vote for winner of the event.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip pint glass. Clear straw yellow with close to two fingers of off-white head. Aromas of malt, citrus, some wheat, herbs, light corn. Tastes of malt, wheat, slight bit of corn, lemon lime citrus. Light body with a dry finish. Nice accidental sort of beer.
