Can from Beer52. Pours black with small tanned head which faded. Aroma of coffee, smoke, treacle. Taste of roasted coffee, chocolate, toffee. Nice sweetness in the finish to balance. Medium bodied.

Can at 5.1% described as a Tropical IPA. Pours a hazy orange-gold with small white top. Aroma has a stewed orange and mixed tropical fruit with pine and dusty spice. Taste of stewed orange, pineapple and apricot with a biscuit like malt. Moderate pine and bitterness towards the finish. Medium bodied, semi-dry. More of a West Coast style but with a modest bitterness. Certainly not what I would describe as a tropical IPA. Not a well defined beer but its nice to have a more malt driven IPA for a change.

330ml can from Beer52 and my first from this brewery. Clear gold, two fingers of white head, good retention. Tropical notes of passionfruit, pineapple, tangerine, very aromatic. Taste is fruity and tangy, semi-sweet, a slight caramel edged malt background, moderate long bitterness. Medium bodied, soft to zingy carbonation. I like it.

Half at the Head of Steam, Birmingham. Clear dark gold, small consistent white head. Fruity aroma with orange and lime and biscuit malts. Taste is biscuit, citrus, metal and grassy bitterness. Its a bit like half pale ale, half pilsner but not the best of both.

Can from Asda. Nose is very floral, lavender, sticky mango, mango ice lolly, strawberry. Taste is floral, hint of elderflower, mango passion fruit, bit of apricot, bread. It's very very soapy. Short lightly bitter floral finish. All over the place and far too much booze relative to the flavour. A bad beer

Keg draught at the Head of Steam, Durham. Dark brown, almost opaque with a small layer of tan head. Lighter aroma than I’d anticipated: coffee, chocolate malt, maybe a bit of liquorice and some blackberry in the background. Sweet taste with the coffee character to the fore. The second half of the sip is bitter with more coffee, also stone fruit. It’s a little bit artificial toward the finish. Medium body with carbonation on the heavy side. It’s okay but could be so much better.

Can from Asda, in Rochester. Color: Hazy orange amber, white head. Aroma: Hoppy, fruity. Taste: Hoppy with a firm malty base. Fruity passionfruit, pineapple. Hints of caramel and rubber. Medium body, average carbonation. Too sweet for an IPA for me. Over moderate sweet, light to moderate bitterness. Mwah...
