Description
Libertine Brewing Company was founded in 2012 on the premise of bringing the best beer selection to the Central Coast, while brewing unique beers and products to compliment. With a strong emphasis on tradition while still being authentic to our region, we have grown from a small brewpub on the water in Morro Bay, to a 9000 square foot production and tasting facility on the edge of downtown San Luis Obispo. All of our Wild Ales are brewed and transferred into an open-top coolship overnight, which allows the local wild yeasts of our area time to naturally fall in and start the fermentation process, giving our beers a true Central Coast Terroir. Along with Wild Ales, we also make cold-brewed coffee that is aged in bourbon and wine barrels and spiced with local ingredients foraged from the surrounding hills.

On tap at Libertine - SLO, pours a cloudy rusted red with a tiny head. Aroma reveals gentle apricots and plenty of the grapes, with light tartness and some bugs. Flavour is characterized by the really nice dry Syrah grapes upfront, with subdued bright apricots, and a bit of oak. Really nice expression of the grapes. Excellent.

On tap at Libertine - SLO, pours a clear golden with a tiny white head. Nose is full of musty white grape skins, some woody vinous notes, and gentle acidity. Flavour is quite intense, with lots of vinous notes, plenty of perfume, and dusty white grapes. The acidity is moderate, and the alcohol is apparent. A little chaotic and harsh, but it somehow works out overall.

On tap at Libertine - SLO, pours a hazy golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma is not so expressive on the passionfruit, but instead brings out a sort of black peppery, spicy saison yeast character. Flavour is similar, with lots of spicy saison yeast, some black pepper, and barely a trace of passionfruit. Could use less spiciness and more fruit character. But as is, it's a pleasant dry saison.

On tap at Libertine - SLO, pours a cloudy dark orange with a small white head. Nose is gentle on the fruit, with subtle apricot, subdued white wine, and some wild bugginess. Flavour is fruity, with subdued tart apricots and raspberries, backed with a lacto-y palate and a touch of brett. There's some gentle white wine character underplaying it. Very nice.

On tap at Libertine - SLO, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma reveals musty grape skins, gentle oak, and rustic saison yeast. Flavour has some undesirable phenolic notes unfortunately, with the wild bugs and grape skins further beneath. Something seems to have gone wrong here. It's not a disaster but definitely needs cleaning up.
