500ml bottle at home. Deep dark brown with little to no head. Aromas of coffee, plum pudding, chocolate cake. Taste has a fruity sweetness and light roast bitterness. Creamy smooth texture, veering towards oily - in a good way - clean finish. Very nice.

Keg at The Hanging Bat. Pours black with a thin, short lived, beige head. Aromas of roasted malt, dark stone fruit, liquorice. Taste has more of the same, plus a nice chocolate sweetness. Creamy texture, and needed to warmed up a fair bit. Nice.

Keg at The Hanging Bat. Black body with a thin beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma of raisins, treacle, liquorice and a faint hint of Twiglet ash. Flavour has zingy red fruits up front, then brown sugar, followed by a dry, biscuity finish. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Average carbonation. A full flavoured beer - a lighter, drier version of the incredible 1841 XXXP Porter I tried earlier today.

Bottle from Cornelius. Black body with a small tan head that quickly fades. No lacing. Aroma of black chocolate, prune, wood smoke, yeast and blackcurrant. Boozy flavour of roasted malt and liquorice lifted by a sharp, tangy plum edge. Sweet, but not overly so. The flavour lingers long after each sip. Full body with a thick, oily texture. Soft carbonation. A sensational beer - rich and complex.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Hazy golden body with a thin white head. Light carbonation. Excellent lacing. Aroma of white sugar, lemon and pear drops. Unusual flavour of sweet candy, apple crumble and pear. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. A bit too sweet for my liking. This bottle was 5.4%.

Cask at the Hanging Bat... end of a long night... dark brown and malty, as I recall. Certainly enjoyed it.
