Bottle. Amber with a small light beige head that doesn't last. 3- Aroma of peach, breadcrust, roast, caramel. Medium bodied, lowish carbonation. A depth and balance of flavour that works really well - sweet, fruity, roasty and bitter.

Bottle bought at Pro Deo - many thanks, Nathalie! Clear golden, thin, white head. Aroma of mandarin, apple, pear, yeast, breadcrust, herbs. Taste has sweetish apple & pear, bit sour citrus, yeasty, malty backbone. Grassy hoppy finish, yeasty & dry, a tad metallic. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Thirst quencher, nothing more.

Handpull cask at the Old Horse, Leicester. Ruby brown, translucent with a foamy beige head and considerable lacing. Wordy, nutty aroma with light notes of cinnamon and toffee. It's reasonably sweet at first but then turns a little bit medicinal near the finish. Decent but ultimately unexciting, although it's nice to have a pint of cask.

500ml bottle. Pours pale gold, small white head, good retention. Aroma of sweet caramel, citrus and flora. Taste is zesty citrus, pine, grapefruit, sweet malts and some caramel. Quite a strong bitterness at first which made me question the balance but this is one of those beers where once you are used to it, the flavours get enhanced the more you drink. Light to moderate body and carbonation. A good pale ale.

330ml bottle from Appleyards. Pours pitch black, foamy khaki head. Aroma of sweet liquorice, caramel, milk chocolate. Fairly light bodied introduction, very distant woody notes with caramel and milk chocolate and emerging dried dark fruits, prunes. Nicely balanced overall, quite light with a gentle bitterness.

Bottle. Pours a dark ruby red, small beige head; looks nice Aroma of predominantly plum, semi-sweet, a very mild roast malt in the background; intriguing Taste has the dark fruits, plum flavouring, vanilla, mild roasted malts, mild hops. There is a moderate bitterness in the finish. Lovely Body is light to moderate and carbonation is light but sparkling rather than soft which doesn't quite work with the rich flavour. Despite the above comment this is a very good porter, packed full of flavour without being over sweet or sickly. As an aside what does 'Natural Plum Flavourings' actually mean. It sounds like a contradiction.

Pours a clear, near black with a ruby red lustre, and a creamy off-white head. Sweet plums on the nose, the mouthfeel is slightly effervescent and the taste is dry, slightly bitter plums and lightly roasted malt, leaving a slight bitter aftertaste.

Cask half at Bridge End Inn, Ruabon after a 40 mile ride through the Welsh hinterlands. Dark ruby colour. Unfortunately seems to have been left in the line a little too long. Will have to re-rate from fresh. Rated objectively.

Smell-weak to medium, dried plums, malt, sweet. Foam- malt, plums, weak acidic tones, faint roast. Head is small, light brown white, orange color. Sticks. Appearance - brewer bottle cap, simple label. Clear very dark red, almost black, weak carbonation. From - snifter Taste - dried plums, acidic, malty, roast, some bitter tones and bit more plums. This is bit weird but plums is mixed well together, I somewhat like it. Not bad for one time, but I won't be looking for this again.
