Description
Initially, the beer was brewed by Roberto Giannarelli at home using minimal tools needed. After initial successes Roberto decided to invest and finally crown his dream shifting production to the historic former barn renovated ad hoc to accommodate new machinery and definitely give rise to La Petrognola Brewery. Between 2012 and 2013, the transfer takes place to the new site a few meters away from the previous one, but with very different spaces and possibilities for development.

From a 330ml bottle on 6/1/2015. Pours a cloudy light amber (lots of yeast floaties) with a medium uneven head. There’s not a lot in the nose, just some very mild grain and spice. The flavour is quite sweet and malty with a hint of fruit, rye and spice. Medium boy with average carbonation. Drinkable enough but definitely on the dull side.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Tom L. Opens with a gusher. Murky orange with almost no head. Aroma of yeast, Bisli-Grill/BBQ-like smokiness, malt and a fruity hint. Smokiness mellows out a bit as the beer warms up. Slightly sweetish flavor with some chestnut, smokiness, malt, a bit of caramel, a fruity note and yeast. Medium-bodied, a bit flat.

Bottle at Bar O’Netto Brasserie, Riomaggiore. Dark brown body with a thick beige head. Clumpy yeast floating around. Excellent lacing. Aroma of espresso, ash, fig and orange. Flavour of dark chocolate lifted by tangy grapefruit hops. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. I would class this as a Black IPA (a decent one, too).

(Draught at In de Wildeman, Amsterdam, 26 Feb 2014) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of white bread, peaches, hay and tropical fruit. Malty, fruity taste with peaches, dried pineapple, mango, candy sugar and a balanced grassy bitterness. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. On the sweet side, but quite tasty. Nice one.
