Description
Richard Ootjers, Owner of Station 1280 and Thom Morrell are about to start up Antwerp’s first craft brewery in the centre of the city.

They plan to launch Uncharted Brew Co. in Antwerp’s Oudaan area at the Winkelcentrum, a small shopping centre known locally as the “beehive” for its hexagonal pattern and which sits at the base of Antwerp’s police headquarters.

That’s where Station 1280 moved to from the city’s central railway station in October 2020. The bottle shop and taproom had outgrown the cramped quarters at Antwerpen-Centraal, Ootjers said in an interview with the Beer Idiots.

At Oudaan, Ootjers now has more space, and a terrace where drinkers can hang out and perhaps even listen to some music in the open area.

And then there is the idea for the brewery in the space next door. He joined up with Morrell, who homebrews as BRWBRD, to create Uncharted Brew Co.

Pours unclear blonde. Small white head. Scent is full, expressive green / fresh hops. Taste is sharp, bit spicy trough the hops. Full body and maltyness. Creamy. Decent iPA for sure.

Pours clear blonde, small white head. Scent is piney, quite intense and typical. Taste is sharp, bitter, piney, intense, outspoken and styletypical. Quite enjoyable indeed !

Pours back, not much head. Scent is very roasty, coffee forward. Rough. taste is sharp, intense, roasty, coffee forward. Bit too much green coffee for me.

Pours unclear blonde. Small white head. Scent is malty, lime, citrus. Taste is sharp, hoppy , intense NE feel, to a soapy level even. Not their best yet, but agreeable.

Draught Small rim over unclear ochreish yellow beer. Faint peach aroma, and a whiff of greenmalt. Peach, fresh grain & malt, hints of wheat. Unripe fruit, but the malts give a background of sweetness. Medium bodied, quite slick, invisible but good carbonation. Not bad, Tom!

11/XI/23 - on tap @ Billies Craft Beer Festival (Antwerp), Day 2 - part 2, BB: n/a, (2023-1013) Thanks to Sebletitje, ElManana, 77ships, Eve and others for sharing today’s beers!

Clear orange beer, small creamy white head, a little stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: nice, very fruity, tropical fruits, juicy, mango, pineapple. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter start, quite some citrus, a bit malty, nice and hoppy, grassy, a bit resinous. Aftertaste: dry, lots of citrus, grapefruit, hoppy, grassy, dry finish, a touch of tropical fruits.
