Bierbrouwerij Vermeersen

Microbrewery in Hulst, Zeeland, Netherlands 🇳🇱

Established in 1991

31965, Absdaalseweg 2, Hulst, 4561 GG, Netherlands
Description
The history of the brewery begins in 1821, when Messrs Wauters, Faseert and Neyt founded the Halve Maan brewery in Hulst. The Hulsterse Brouwers persist in brewing top-fermented beer. Even when all other Dutch breweries brew Pilsener, traditional beer still flows from the kettles in Hulst. In 1968, the brewery in the city center of Hulst was closed and the cellar rights were sold to Paul Vermeersen, who before then was a distributor of Hulster beer.

In 1989, a new brewery was put into use on the Absdaalseweg. From 2010, the old brewery installation was thoroughly modernized. In 2016, the name “Beer Brewery Vermeersen” was adopted. The brewery is currently focusing on brewing beautifully balanced beers from, as far as possible, local ingredients for the Zeeland Market.

Very resistant, thick head, with shards of lace over opaque amber-mossy beer. Spicy & yeasty nose, bit perfumey, red fruit or rosehips - no doubt the rooibos tea? Quite bitter, walnut peel, horsechestnut. Hint of blue cheese, from the Sorachi, probably. Wry, even astringent; rather well-bodied, well-carbonated feel. Somehow, I cannot really love it. Lots of good features, but they don’t seem to add up.

Flesje gedeeld met Tom. Goudgeel helder bier met weinig schuim. Aroma is nauwelijks aanwezig, iets hoppig, iets moutig. Smaak is hoppig. Nasmaak is bitter.

Bottle shared thanks to deanso. Hazy lemon-yellow with a white head. Notes of lemonade, coriander, yeast, bitter hops, bitter medicine, honey. Medium body, soft carbonation and a refreshing aftertaste.

Bottle @ home. Clear dark golden color, medium sized white to off-white head that lasts for a decent while and leaves superb lacing. Aroma is lightly malts, quite floral and blossomy. Taste lightly malts, again sweetish floral hints, some herbs or spices, I somehow get a light hint of mint and quite a sweet finish. Meh, don’t like it.

Illabebablabal Autoplablabla??? That sounds like a Harry bl°° Potter spell. Sheess! Latin-greek mumbo jumbo Good dense, yellow head over clear copper beer. Very caramelly nose, bit sharpish, coriander, toasted. Yeast and coriander in the mouth. Bit of toast, carrots. And caramel. Bit burning MF, medium bodied and quite slick; well-carbonated. As lame as its name.
