This is a well-balanced iPA (yes, that’s a small ’i’), with notes of watermelon and passionfruit complementing the grapefruit aroma, and some caramel with just a hint of wet dirt. The palate has a good punch of mild grapefruit spilling right over the sides of the tongue and down the back of the throat. There’s a hint of malt biscuit to give it some good body. A pleasant beer and certainly a real winner for those who like their IPAs on the lighter side.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - bottled on 06/04/12, at Pikkulintu, 20120908) The beer poured mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma had pine, malts and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were pine, sweetness, malts, fruitiness and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. A nice beer with a little bit too much sweetness.

Bottled on 13/04/12 - Pours dark brown, almost black with a small head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, slightly roasted malts, some lactic notes. Taste is sweetish with chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts and toffee. Finish has a lot of chocolate, vanilla and toffee. Nice, quite tasty chocolate porter.

Pours amber with a large, lasting head.Nose shows lots of juicy fruit, with pineapple, nectarine and peach confectionery notes. The flavours instead focus on grapefruit along with a little clean malt.Finishes quite dry with a piny, hoppy bitterness.Carbonation is perhaps a little excessive.

Pours amber with a small head.Lots of spices in the aroma. I’d take a guess at some combination of cinnamon, cardamon, nutmeg and coriander. Very potent. Also a lime-like citrus note in there. Peppery.Light flavours, but with the same spicy dominating in the aroma. Once you get over the initial assault of spices it’s quite enjoyable.Carbonation seems full on, while the body feels a little watery. Not as traditional as I was expecting, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Lovely malt butterscotch aroma with a broad grapefuit front and a sharper lemon note. There’s just a hint of late chocolate and that 7% alcohol comes through a little too. When tasted, the hops are more prominent, mainly in the form of sour grapefruit, which is a touch overbearing, but if you really close your eyes and concentrate you get a little malt underneath the citrus assault. All up, a good double IPA, though not as good as the Mornington Peninsula Imperial IPA I had recently.

ChrisO ’Night Of The Gaylords’ tasting. Clear amber beer. Lightly sour malt nose. Rich toffee malt. Light creamy palate. Decent beer - like a light creamy barleywine. A little bubblegum in the undertone.
