Deep brown coloured muddy body with a very thin tan head that fades very fast. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, caramel and a lot of pit fruits. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasty flavours with caramel, coffee, figs, tea and some alcohol finishes. Aftertaste is relatively mild, with only some malty, nutty and caramel flavours tucked in. Overall, a pretty good beer - but not really a ’traditional’ dubbel - more of an american strong to me. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Slowbeer in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 31-December-2009 for A$5.50, sampled on this side of the Pacific on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 29-May-2010.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear copper with an off-white head. Somewhat oxidized toffee aroma. Quite full-bodied, burned caramel and notes of licorice allsorts. Some bitterness and a fairly warming alcohol in the finish. 090110

Bottle. Yellow beer with a small white head that fades fast.Smells of oranges and coriander. Watery and bland. I last had one of these maybe ten years ago and it was massively overcarbonated and kind of bad-funky and metallic. I then didn’t try any of their other beers for many years, which turned out to be a mistake. But this one is poor.

From a 330ml bottle on 6/2/2010. The nose is floral and fruity. The flavour is subtle but quite complex - stone fruits, honey and herbs set of against a mild bitterness. Quite a nice drop and one which would be well suited to a session.

Bottle. Reddish brown. Tiny "rim and island" head. Cherry and prune aroma. Some vanilla, chocolate and alcohol. Fairly sweet with carbonation and some bitter and sour notes to balance. [3.1] Bottle. Clear reddish brown. Off-white head completely gone in a few seconds. Aroma has berries and caramel, some chocolate and spices. Taste is better with some doughy yeast under caramel, dried fruit and spices. Drying finish is a little spicy. Pretty respectable.

Bottle, now labelled "Big Reg". Pours red amber, smallish light beige head. There’s visible carbonation in the glass, but I can’t really feel it - which is a shame. Smells of caramel and biscuity bread. Tastes just sweet initally and then there is some wood and a little roastiness. Finish is very sweet and faintly metallic. Not my sort of thing.

Bottle at Chriso Gaylord tasting 09. Russet/brown, thin off white head. Spicy aroma, spice/sour. Some malt. Bit too spicy for my delicate palate and a bit sweet.

Bottled at Bishop’s Arms SoFo, Stockholm. Near black, small head. Rich milky chocolate aroma. Mid-sweet with soothing, rounded mouthfeel and medium body. Lots of cocoa powder and vanilla, which dominates the beer completely. Finishes with more milk chocolate and low bitterness. An upfront one-flavour beer.
