On tap at Beertown - Toronto, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma has plenty of oats, a touch of roast, and some earthiness. Flavour is dry, with oats, gentle cocoa, and earthiness. Dry, hearty and well-balanced. Nothing too deep or complex but reasonably constructed. Decent.

Can from the brewery. clear dark reddish brown under a tiny dark brown head that fades quickly leaving minimal lace. Muted nose of dark chocolate, coffee and roast. Flavour follows with a light molasses sweetness and a light+ coffee bitterness. Mouth is medium with very soft carbonation. Bad can? 7/3-/7/2/12

Can. Hazy blonde. Thick head. Aroma drops pale malt, light esters, vague herbaceous hoppiness. It's dry on the palate - I mean there's a light plasticy phenol note which I obviously don't like but in general it's bready, herbaceous (especially minty) and finishes nice and dry. Seems like Dupont yeast or something pretty close. Moderate bitterness. I'll say this - it's better than I expected. Good for Ontario and this style...if this was from Quebec I'd probably judge it a bit more harshly. But then again, it's good enough that I mentioned Quebec in the rating.

Served in my La Trappe glass. Pale amber-brown sort of colour and hazy. Thick head. Fruity aroma, definitely comes across like a dubbel with the raisiny accent but it's got a lot of tartness, too, the saison aspect. Not quite a dark saison but amber. A touch of sweetness in the finish, and some esters floating around as well. It's about as effective as it can be - not my type of beer but there's just enough depth and complexity for me to appreciate it.

The can had dented outward, and frothed up a lot upon opening. A little extra can fermentation never hurt anybody, right? Dark brown colour. Light brown head, when it dies down. So of course it's thin, fizzy, light vanilla and chocolate. But with that bonus fermentation the stout is thin, and that inhibits the expression of pretty much everything you'd want to taste. Dunno - that's an issue with packaging that probably shouldn't happen.
Light hay malt, a little pepper, some cream notes, lingering light bitterness.
