The origin of the brewery and distillery Gebr. Sünner was located in Cologne-Deutz. Today it is the oldest Kölsch brewery in the world and has been owned by the Sünner family since 1830. The origins go back to a small house brewery called "Zum Schiffgen" with a distillery and taproom. In 1846 the brewery moved to the current premises in Cologne-Kalk. With Astrid Schmitz-DuMont, the sixth generation of the Sünner family has taken over the management of the brewery and continues the tradition of the family-owned brewery and distillery.

Pale yellow pour with little white head. Aroma is flowers and cereal. Taste is very smooth, but empty. It’s a refreshing summertime beer. That’s about it. Rated 1/7/10

Lively gold pour - soapy, short-lived head - nose of honey, soft herbal notes, crisp, grassy noble hops - quite inviting - fairly full mouthfeel for something so light - dry, crisp, and moderately bitter up front - medium sweetness develops through the middle, along with some pleasant, subtle herbal and wildflower notes - the finish dries out again, and develops a slightly chalky texture that detracts from the refreshing character you want from the beer - otherwise fairly good

Hazy golden with a medium white head. Slightly sourish aroma that had notes of wheat, yeast and lemons. The dry flavour had the usual wheat, yeast, banana and hints of lemons. Finished dry.

Hazy orange-yellow color, decent but collapsing white head. Bubblegum nose with hints of skunky hops. Crisp carbonation. Some citrusy acidity, otherwise flavor is mainly bubblegummy. Lemony aftertaste. Simple, below average hefeweizen.

[3/10] I guess Kölsch travels about as well as Bitter. There’s a bit of round fruitiness here, but it’s rather lifeless and the little bitterness there is is dull. Sad. 4 4 4 2 9 [2.1]The first time you see a new label is always a decent time to try again. Aroma is lot all that promising - some stone fruit and hay, a bit grainy with some lemon. But it’s got a bit of zing to it and there’s some nice tight spiciness in the reasonably bitter finish.

Bottled (from bierzwerg.de). Golden colour with mediumsized fluffy head. Aroma is quite much bready malts, some saltwatery notes, some slight fruity and earthy notes as well. Flavour is quite much the same with rather big focus on the maltyness. Gets some slight grainy notes as it warms up. Not a that solid Kölsch.

Clear pale golden color, steady white head. Light citrusy fruity, plasticky corn malty nose. Flavor has some lemony fruityness and maltyness, but also boring corn-like and grainy notes. Foamy carbonation. Typical bottled Kölsch: clean but not very exciting. I always wonder why top raters give to bottled Kölsch 3.x ratings as these taste exactly same than tropical lagers.
