Established in 1830
The origin of the brewery and distillery Gebr. Sünner was located in Cologne-Deutz. Today it is the oldest Kölsch brewery in the world and has been owned by the Sünner family since 1830. The origins go back to a small house brewery called "Zum Schiffgen" with a distillery and taproom. In 1846 the brewery moved to the current premises in Cologne-Kalk. With Astrid Schmitz-DuMont, the sixth generation of the Sünner family has taken over the management of the brewery and continues the tradition of the family-owned brewery and distillery.

Bottle (from Koelschtrinker). Slightly sour barley malt aroma - like a Dortmunder. Golden yellow color with minimal head. Barley malt flavor with a kiss of honey and a moderate grassy hops finish. Moderate carbonation/acidity. Seems to me like a mix between a Koelsch and a Dortmunder.

Malzig-süßer, deutlich herber Antrunk. Lasch, im Nachgeschmack metallern, etwas süß, langweilig. Definitiv Schrott. 7/5/5/3/6/4

The bottle looks good, but not spectacular. The beer is very zippy and fruity, but turns somehow washy and boring in the end. Not a really good beer.

(33cl bottle, with thanks to DerDoppelbock & Koelschtrinker !) Slightly hazy, pale golden colour with a short foamy white head. Sweetish aroma, intensely grainy with herbal hops on light fruity background (pears, citrus). Initially slightly sweet grainy, malt-accented taste, getting more and more herbal towards the finish which is rather slim and moderately bitter; light to medium bodied, smooth mouthfeel, but a bit sticky in the aftertaste. Still drinkable but not overwhelming.

(Bottle at Brauhaus Sünner im Walfisch, Köln) Shady yellow color, white head. Acidic banana white/wheat beer scent. A bit too high co2 makes it spritzy and hides the nice taste. Acidic banana taste, what you can feel of it. Really nice bitterness, rather high for a weiss (or weizen).
