Description
Owned by "Brauerei zur Malzmühle" since 01/2022.

The origin of the brewery and distillery Gebr. Sünner was located in Cologne-Deutz. Today it is the oldest Kölsch brewery in the world and has been owned by the Sünner family since 1830. The origins go back to a small house brewery called "Zum Schiffgen" with a distillery and taproom. In 1846 the brewery moved to the current premises in Cologne-Kalk. With Astrid Schmitz-DuMont, the sixth generation of the Sünner family has taken over the management of the brewery and continues the tradition of the family-owned brewery and distillery.

0.5 l bottle shared with friend who brought it from Köln, huge thanks Toni for picking the new style for me! Poured golden body with medium sized white head. Aroma of some lemon or grass hops with some malty notes and some spices which only distinguish them from some typical lagers. Flavor is fuller however, sweetish and a bit fruity, but pretty hoppy as well. Those lemons are still one of the most prominent flavors here, besides some spices like vanilla or banana and other esters. Nice. Medium-long, sweetish finish. Quite good...if this is are macro crap, how does the craft beer tastes like!

The bottle looks too much bio-like. The beer in the glass is okay - looks like a hefeweizen. Tastes the same, yeasty, zippy, the fruityness is missing. Boring, yeasty finish. Not really good!

Bottle, 4.8%. Looks clear in tbe bottle but with a big layer of yeast at the bottom. Shaken, it is cloudy yellow with small floaties. Small stable white head. The flavour is grassy and refreshing. Not too powerful, but nice enough.

Bottle, 4.9%. Clear in the bottle with thick sediment. After shaking, it turns milky, very cloudy yellow/orange. Small white head. Acidic aroma at first, turns very wheaty. The flavour also starts citric, turns fat and wheaty and finishes with a good yeast note. Clovey finish.

(3/3/08) Bottle from a trade with Koelschtrinker (thanks Roman!) shared with a drunken Scottish man at a hostel in Antwerp. Slightly hazy golden with a big white head that disappears rather fast. Aroma of yeast (a bit nasty), and some fruity esters. Flavor is sweet, wheaty with a bit of banana and a tiny bit of bubblegum. Light-bodied.

Bottle (trade with Koelschtrinker). Lemon, banana, and spicey clove aroma. Cloudy orange yellow color with moderate head. Acidic lemon flavor primarily with a more subdued banana/clove malt flavor. Nice drinking but flavor is a bit one-dimensional.
