4oz pour at the brewery. Pours a murky, rootbeer brown with zero head. Looks dangerous. Nose is mostly booze, vanilla, oak, some nail polish. Flavors are the same, the base beer is gone, heavy booze, some vanilla, some coconut. Sticky finish. Lots of sugar and booze.

8oz pour at the brewery. Pours a hazy orange with some tight, sudsy head. Nose has some vinous notes, a crackery backbone, some white grape, plenty of raw wood. Flavors follow suit, lightly sweet, grape juice, some mild lemon, a little bit of cheese curd but then vanilla and raw wood. Creamy finish. Nice enough.

64oz growler from the brewery pours a clear gold with some fizzy, fading white head. Aroma has some malt, a little candy, some straw, mildly grassy. Flavor is mostly malt, a little carrot, candy, straw, grass, a flick of lemon. Creamy finish. Not bad.

Poured a dark brown color from the cask with just a little head, mostly wispy around the edges, totally black and flat in the middle. Aroma is bourbon barrel. Oak, vanilla. Easy drinking, though perhaps not totally subtle. Sipper, but enjoyable. 10% and not the 15% I had when a similar version was originally produced.

Impressive and unexpected IPA. Orange whip is exactly what’s going on here with some zesty tangerine, a little booze and some light pine. Pours deep orange with OK head and lacing. Very bitter finish. Tap at Right Proper.

On tap at the brewhouse. Pours a clear, caramel brown with some sticky, creamy, off white head. Nose is mild, some esters, some banana, clove, a little bread, some malt. Flavor has a prickly black pepper that strikes first, then the smoothing malt sweetness comes through, some grass, a little clove, some anise. Creamy finish.

Draft at Mad Fox poured into a nonic pint glass, freshly tapped just 3 hours prior for their First Saturday Brewery Open House. Pours a nice dark amber/orange color with little off-white head. Aromas of orange, grapefruit, citrus peel and rind. Tasting notes of big grapefruit and orange citrus, pine, caramel, floral notes, big hops. Medium body with a dry finish, semi-juicy mouthfeel. Possibly my favorite of Mad Fox’s IPAs.

Draft at Mad Fox poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a clear straw yellow with almost a finger of off-white head. Aromas of light citrus, wheat, light tropical fruit. Tasting notes of citrus, wheat, biscuit, light grass and corn, floral hops. Medium-light body with a dry finish.

Draft at Mad Fox. Pours a brownish black with a finger of tan head. Aromas of cocoa, caramel, slight dark fruit, vanilla. Tastes of cocoa, caramel, roast, coffee, vanilla, light spices. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Dry finish.
Had the cask version on 2/28/14. Creamier, less carbonation, and less cold than draft, otherwise similar. Like the cask version a bit more due to the mouthfeel and temperature.
