Draft at Mad Fox Brewing’s 3rd Annual Barleywine Festival. Poured a deep copper color with a small off-white head. Aroma was sweet, caramel toffee notes with some spice character, surrounded by a bunch of vanilla oak. Flavor had some light hops, vanilla oak, spice. Enjoyed the mellow characters in this one.

Draft courtesy of Sam the Man, thank you sir! Ddark clear maroon color, beige large bubble head. Aroma is roasty coffee grounds, subtle dark cocoa. Taste is sweet toasted nutella, milk chocolate, espresso. Delicious.

Sampled at MadFox. Pours a clear golden yellow with some thin white head. Surprisingly mild nose, raisin, candy sugar, pear, malt. Flavor is sweet, malty, apples, pears, golden raisins. Only lightly bitter. Full bodied, lightly sticky finish. Doesn’t have thwarting bitterness of a standard barleywine. If you had just given this to me with no explanation I might have thought this was just a super lager or something. Not bad, just doesn’t strike me as any bit barleywine.

Sampled at MadFox. Pours a clear, honey amber with some lacking white head. Nose is fairly mild, lemon, honey, floral, lightly soapy, light malt. Flavor is lightly sweet, honey, floral, orange, light lemon zest. Light, dry finish. A good introductory beer.

Sampled at MadFox. Pours a watery, extremely faint gold with some cloudy white head. Oddly, the nose is a little sugary, grass, lemon, some white bread. Flavor was also oddly sugary, lightly bitter, sweet, grass, hay. Makes me wonder if some malt extract was used and failed to ferment it. Mostly dry, spritzy finish. Reminded me less of a Czech Pilsner and more of a Euro adjunct lager.
