Sample at Bigelo’s Bistro in Edwardsville, IL. The beer is a clear pale yellow color with a medium white head that recedes slowly. Thin sheet of lacing on the glass. Bready malt and mild hops in the nose. Light and clean body with flavors of biscuity malt, grain, hops and some fruit. The finish is malty with a short mildly hopped aftertaste. Average overall.

12 oz bottle. Medium golden color, thin white head, solid lacing. Aroma of orange peel, flowers, grass. Taste is orange peel, clove, nice bitterness throughout. Substantial body. Decent.

Tap at the Heritage Beer Festival’10, labeled just "Smoked Beer." Pour is a clear medium brown color with a thin, but lasting head. The beer is all smoke, a bit too oily and slick on the mouthfeel for me though. I would like it more rounded and thicker. But the sweet, BBQ aspect is all over the place and I like it.

Tap at Birreria Paradiso. Copper color, solid white head and lacing. Aroma of pine and flowers. Tate is bitter throughout, but not over the top. Tasty.

Nice crystal clear lightish golden coloured body with a dense three-centimetre tall white head. Aroma of pale malt, light grassy hops, apricots and a touch of fake sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive maltiness with a grassy and slightly bitter and drying finish. Aftertaste shows a lot of herbal notes, some alcohol and a surprising amount of body, given the style. Overall, a nice kolsch and actually pretty different than most in the style - nice to try, especially those who like lighter beers and lagers! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, DC on 13-May-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 04-June-2010.

Draught at Churchkey. Bright yellow, edge head. Aroma of white pepper and malt. Taste is malty with a slightly sour edge. More interesting than your standard Kolsch.

Bottle, 2008 Vintage, shared with friends at the Gutter while bowling. Pours black with medium, brown head. Nose is heavy on dark malts, bourbon, oak, some coffee and chocolate, some dark fruit. Sweet flavor to begin, notes of caramel, raisin, vanilla, light char. More roast and tobacco towards the end, with a long, burnt malt finish. Medium to big body, full and rich, lightly carbonated, very warming. We paired this with barbecue from Fette Sau - and all was right in the world.
