Description
In 1449, Urbar von Wallsee first mentioned a brewery in Hofstetten. This is the oldest record we have of a brewery at this location, and it is a date that has granted us a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the Oldest Brewery in Austria. The tavern/brewery has been in the hands of the Krammer Family since 1847. Now in our fifth generation, we still proudly combine hops and malt daily to make the beautiful product of beer.

Bottle from Alpenhaus Deli. Murky brown pour, small creamy head, last for a while. Pungent, sweet malty aroma, not out of place, reminiscent of a doppelbock. Taste is also sweet, some bitterness towards the back, and plenty of burn. Instantly warming, dries out a bit at the finish. Boy, I’ve missed this style. What memories.

From bottle at CBF Wien.
Brown body, with a small, creamy, beige head.
Aroma of barrel, wine, ripe fruits, some leather, some berries.
Tastes of wine, barrel, sweet ripe and dried fruits, leather, some vinegar.
Medium, slick mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes wooden, vinous, a bit dry, medium leathery, fruity, medium sour.

Very nice. Lovely vinous barrel notes, that aren’t too heavy, drinks smooth for the ABV. Overall pretty much like a Flemish Red. Among the best sour beers by Hofstettner in my opinion.

$4.70 pint+ bottle from Wine Warehouse. Pours orange with almost no head to speak of. Aroma is grass, leaves, light fruit, earth. Flavor is green and grown leaves, grasses, cheap lager, grains. This is a top 50 Oktoberfest? Meh.
