Description
In 1449, Urbar von Wallsee first mentioned a brewery in Hofstetten. This is the oldest record we have of a brewery at this location, and it is a date that has granted us a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the Oldest Brewery in Austria. The tavern/brewery has been in the hands of the Krammer Family since 1847. Now in our fifth generation, we still proudly combine hops and malt daily to make the beautiful product of beer.

Thank you tderoeck for this very interesting treat. Here is an article about what makes this beer so interesting (in my opinion): http://www.bunitedint.com/information/brands/deScription/182/ 330 ml. bottle shared with tderoeck & kraddel. BBF 04.02.19. Deep red amber, little tanned head. Nose is strange sweet cough syrup, herbal, leaves, syrup, sweet very caramelized, very thick cough syrup. Taste is cough drops, cough syrup, black licorice, very sweet licorice candy, allmsot touch medicinal, very sweet herbal,.. Thick, very dry. Took some getting use but the more I drank it , the more I started to enjoy it. I think I would convert to this one if I were to drink it a few times. An acquired but very interesting taste. Neat.

330 ml bottle from end of 2014, bb 29.10.15
Medium gusher. Amber, hazy body, with floating yeast particles and a medium, fluffy, moderately lacing, light beige head.
Aroma of honey, ripe fruits, bread, oat, some berries, flowers, some citrus.
Taste is a bit lighter, with about the same aromas and subtle alcohol.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes medium alcohol warming, quite soft, floral, a bit fruity, with some some grains and lingering honey notes.
Good. Interesting, diverse nose, with a good mix of sweet and fruity notes. Taste is a bit too light for my liking, while still good. Overall it has more character than many other style examples, but still not among the best ones I’ve had.

Golden, clear body, with a medium, creamy, lacing, white head.
Aroma of honey, flowers, grains, grass, some bread, some sweet ripe fruits, some citrus.
Tastes of flowers, grass, grains, citrus, honey, spices, some herbs, some sweet fruits, some alcohol.
Medium, a bit creamy mouthfeel, with an average cabonation.
Finishes alcohol warming, bitter, quite dry, hoppy, floral, spicy, grassy, a bit sweet.
Good, but not so special. A bit hoppier than usual for this style, with nice floral notes and a bitter finish. Still quite simple overall, while well balanced. Not among my favourite Hofstettner bock beers.
