Description
In 1449, Urbar von Wallsee first mentioned a brewery in Hofstetten. This is the oldest record we have of a brewery at this location, and it is a date that has granted us a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the Oldest Brewery in Austria. The tavern/brewery has been in the hands of the Krammer Family since 1847. Now in our fifth generation, we still proudly combine hops and malt daily to make the beautiful product of beer.

Bottled. Hazy amber colour with a minor head. Aroma is herbal, some tea leafs, mild mint and some zesty notes. Flavour is surprisingly enough quite absinthe-like, with mild citrus and some bitterness to it as well. A bit watery as for the palate.

Bottle, courtesy of SinH4. A pretty average but still nice Doppelbock. Mostly on the caramel side of the spectrum. Thus pretty sweet, actually rather a bit too much.

Pours a hazy ripened peach colour, good and long lasting head of foam.

I get fruity and bready notes in the smell. Kinda sweet but kinda not.

Bready in the taste but dominated over by some kind of stone pitted fruit. I can’t quite pull out what it is but it’s distracting.

Great mouthfeel.

Not worthy of a future visit.

Beautiful black-brown color with tan head. Aroma is sweet malts and caramel, molasses, toffee. Taste is the same, with a silky mouthfeel, a nice sweetness and a not too strong booziness. It’s a little bit too malty, but still very good.
