Description
Set in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of Central Virginia, Blue Mountain opened in 2007 as the region’s first rural brewery. Founders Taylor and Mandi Smack and Matt Nucci had a vision to bring the brewery experience out of the normal hustle and bustle of an urban environment. Today, we’re still focused on making an inspired range of the highest-quality beers that can be enjoyed at our two locations in beautiful Nelson County, or in bottles and cans throughout Virginia and beyond.

Can, courtesy of nimbleprop. Golden pour with two fingers of creamy off-white head. Really nice aroma, albeit a bit mild. Fresh citrus, light herbals, floral, and caramel. Sort a soft and wet mouthfeel, flavors of light florals and herbal hops. Citrus seems to have fallen off. Bready malt base and a mild spicy hop finish. I feel like there is a bit more going on here than I’m really picking up… maybe I’m reading more into this than I should. Enjoyable. I could see this being a local staple.

Tap at stags head. Pours jet black at least in this lighting. Nose of cocoa and coffee. Tastes of rich chocolate, some vanilla, coffee, malt, licorice, and ome leather. Bourbon is subdued and not too sweet despite being so chocolaty.

Pours clear light amber with small white head. Aroma is light herbal hops, medium carbonation, medium/light body, and little lacing. Taste is herbal hops balanced with some caramel malt. Not for me.

Odense Beer & Ball Saturday - Parma vs. Bologna. Black with a lasting tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate with weaker notes of bourbon and coffee beans, very nice. Sweet and dark malty flavour with chocolate, dried fruit, ash, soy sauce, alcohol and hops. Lacking harmony with both vineous character, sweetness and notable bitterness
