Description
Set in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of Central Virginia, Blue Mountain opened in 2007 as the region’s first rural brewery. Founders Taylor and Mandi Smack and Matt Nucci had a vision to bring the brewery experience out of the normal hustle and bustle of an urban environment. Today, we’re still focused on making an inspired range of the highest-quality beers that can be enjoyed at our two locations in beautiful Nelson County, or in bottles and cans throughout Virginia and beyond.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy orange amber with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out spicy Belgian notes and faint bourbon notes. Flavour brings out fairly rich bourbon barrels, soapy floral hops, and slightly spicy Belgian yeast. Weird idea to age a light Belgian ale in bourbon barrels. Bizarre flavours, but not offensive. Solid stuff for what it is.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a thin frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of big whiskey notes, vanilla, apples, other mild fruits, booze. The taste is big whiskey notes, wood, pale malt, vanilla and an herbal finish. Medium bodied, hot, and the barrel character strips out most of the base beer’s character.
