About
Highgate Brewery was established in 1898 by James A. Fletcher and began brewing in 1899. Its best known for its classic midlands dark beers , with the “mild” style beer historically being a staple for the workers of the local area. at its peak its was producing 100,000 barrels of mild beer per year. It was purchased by Mitchells & Butlers in 1939, which merged with the Bass brewery in 1961 It became independent when the management bought it out in 1995. July 2007 it was sold to and still belongs to Davenports Brewery.

Gravity cask at the Walsall Camra, beer festival 2015. Poured a clear dark brown with a bubbly off white head. The aroma is caramel malt. The flavour is moderate bitter with a light, slightly watery burnt malt, light hop bitter palate. Light bodied with soft carbonation.

Bright golden ale with a creamy head, crisp and relatively smooth. It has light malts and a bitter character.

Aroma has riupe fruits, malty notes, some caramel and toffee. Flavour is malty and somewhat sweet with fruity notes, toffee, caramel and hints of licorice. Good.

Cask (handpump) @ NWAF 2012, National Winter Ales Festival, The Venue, Sheridan Suite, Manchester, England.Clear dark red brown color with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, sweet dark malt - fruit. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to light moderate bitter with a long duration, dark berry sweet. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20120119]

Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, toasted, moderate to heavy hoppy, pine, orange - citrus. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20120119]

Cask@Beerd, Bristol. Yellowish golden colour, small white head. Aroma is fruity, floral, caramelly and quite sweet overall. Flavour is sweet malts, fruits, nectar and some mild honeyish and nutty notes as well.

Cask (as Davenport Kerfuffle)@Beerd, Bristol. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is fruity, floral, wooden and a bit herbal. Flavour is fruity, nectary, tropical fruity and also has soem sweet maltyness.
