Description
Triggerfish Brewing is a Somerset West based craft brewery brewing the widest range beer styles in South Africa. We started brewing commercially in 2010, making us the second oldest craft brewery to be established in the greater Cape Town area.
We brew small batches with only the best available ingredients and enjoy designing classic examples of beer styles not commonly available in South Africa. As the craft beer industry grows we are introducing the odd style deviant or hybrid to keep things interesting.

Slightly hazy light amber. The aroma has all the chewy, caramelly crystal malt and submissive earthy hops you’d expect from the style, along with some sketchy phenols. Intense, chewy and earthy with stacks of crystal malt and abundant alcohol. This is one of those IIPAs that drinks more like a barley wine.

Hazy and very dull amber-tan. The aroma is dull hops, hint of phenols. Malty character, light hop, fairly yeasty. OK maybe as an amber.

33cl bottle thanks to Nustu. Pours a cloudy and yeast-filled yellow-orange with a thin head. The nose has pine and earthiness maybe parsnip. The taste has a seriously yeast-influence with still the apricot fruit coming through. The finish is very drying and yoghurty. The palate has a medium body and texture with a drying finish. This is an interesting beer but I can’t imagine this is what they intended to produce.

Hazy brownish-amber. The aroma is quite phenolic and little else. The taste is slightly sour and phenolic. Too many problems, though hopefully on a re-rate I won’t find them.

Hazy dull light amber. The aroma is c-hoppy and the palate has some moderate bitterness, light citrus and tropical fruit notes. Both aroma and palate have a fair bit of butter, unfortunately. The diacetyl seems deliberate, but its too strong and obfuscates the hop and malt characters.

Bottle at a tasting in Uppsala, July 2012. Thanks jolo. I hesitated whether I would rate the beer or not, because the bottle was old. I was told that the taste was ok, but the aroma was different compared to a fresh bottle. Well the colour was hazy yellow with a white head. The aroma was on the sour side with some notes of fruit. The taste was quite ok, dry with some sour notes and fruit and with some sweetness. Obviously old but still not bad according to me.
