Bottle, thanks sinH4's parents! Light amber, thin head, little to no aroma. Grainy taste with a tinge of hops on the back end. Clean enough, should be refreshing by the beach...

Thuis uit een flesje. Goudgeel, weinig schuim. Matig aroma, wel een frisse smaak, maar niet bitte genoeg voor dit type.

What can I say, it's perfectly unremarkable. Worked well as my first beer for a while and a new country tick. Unsurprisingly, not very different from the Japanese macro I had afterwards.

Bottle from Rubin, thanks pal! Pours dark amber. Sweetish, smoked notes, sweet malty finish. Meh.

While I don't remember this beer being available the last time I was here in French Polynesia (three years ago), it was everywhere this time - white can, easy to spot. Light pasty and slightly cloudy golden coloured body with a very small, single centimetre tall pure white head. Aroma of coriander seed, light nutmeg, a dose of grass, but mostly hay, wheat and a very nice bready yeast - quite enjoyable in the scent. Light to perhaps Medium-bodied; Strong spicey flavour that definitely showcases the coriander seed, and also the nutmeg, light caster sugar sweeetness and of course, all the wheat - which is nice and fresh. Aftertaste shows some canned corn and a mellow dose of bubblegum, but aside from that, the nutmeg and yeast flavours dominate on the tail end without any offputting or funky notes at all. Overall, a nice and enjoyable, very easy-drinking beer that almost hits like a Hooegarden, but is a bit more mellow (read watery) with a dash of spices at the end that give this some good flavours. I sampled this 33 cL can purchased from Super U Are, in PaoPao, Moorea, French Polynesia on 28-July-2019 for XPF240 sampled in my hotel room in Moorea, French Polynesia with my three kids and wife, on a nice holiday on 30-July-2019.

Deep golden coloured body with almost an amber and copper glow, all without much head at all, after starting with a centimetre and a half of a tan head. Aroma of honey, peated malt, grain, astringent nuts and earth, a dose of flowers and some pure caramelised sugars that doesn't really amount to anything Belgian and definitely nothing of a Tripel. Medium-bodied; Strong sweet honey flavour at first that shows a lot of pungency with the grain and nutty flavours showing right behind and leaving the palate a bit sharp with the alcohol and bitterness from the sweetness the strongest of the bunch. Aftertaste shows a little nutty and earthy flavours with the grain and astringency quite high, but the honey again shows through and topples everything else, even alcohol. Overall, a decent enough beer, but definitely not a tripel, and sadly, not anything Belgian-inspired. I saved this one for last, since I thought it was my last hope of finding a good beer produced down here, but I was mistaken - I believe my favourite of the bunch was the 'typical' Hinano Amber. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased yesterday from Champion [supermarche] in [downtown] Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia on 31-July-2019 for XPF380 sampled the following day, before leaving for Tokyo, Japan, later at my hotel here in Papeete.

Golden coloured body with a pale, pure white single centimetre tall head that fades down to just about nothing on top. Aroma of fake astringent lemons and citrus with a heavy hand of rum, medicine and a touch of mint on the finish (not sure if that was intentional). Light-bodied; Sugars dominate with not much else, perhaps a touch of herbs, grass and wheat, but no real sugars or complexity to make this unique. Aftertaste is subdued with a little grassy notes, a touch of very mellow and understated malts and a hint of yeast and alcohol with a softer citrus and very soft yeast note with some light cardboard and wheatier malts that leave nothing on the palate and nothing too pungent at all. Overall, a pretty soft beer that goes down easily and if nothing else, doesn't have any complexity either way and is very easy-to-drink throughout. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased a few minutes ago from Champion [supermarche] in [downtown] Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia on 01-August-2019 for XPF290 sampled a few minutes later at my hotel here in Papeete.

Clear light golden and subdued amber coloured body with a thinnish, pale white head that fades relatively quickly after starting out at under a centimetre tall in height. Aroma of citrus, grass, lemongrass, light herbs, a dose of funk, and of course, dare I say it, tequilla. Light-bodied; Sharp lemon and grassy citrus flavours dominate with some lemongrass and wheat notes right behind that are very simple and easy-going showing some tequilla and extra infusion of alcohol, but still relatively simple and non-astringent. Aftertaste is soft, all based around the sugars with some pears and apple notes coming around the grass and lemons, but this too is very easy-to-drink and soft throughout. Overall, not as bad as a 'beer' as I was expecting, and even though I saw this on my previous trip to French Polynesia and stayed away, that isn't necessary, as this really isn't so bad of a beer and is decent if not, nice in the sun of the South Pacific Winter. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased a few minutes ago from Champion [supermarche] in [downtown] Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia on 01-August-2019 for XPF290 sampled a few minutes later at my hotel here in Papeete.
