Description
Way back in 1986, before craft brewing was even cool, Summit Brewing Company Founder and President Mark Stutrud set out in St. Paul, Minnesota, to make craft beers inspired by old-world brewing traditions and ingredients. More than 30 years have passed since he first brewed our flagship Summit Extra Pale Ale, and it’s safe to say he freaking nailed it.
Today, Summit Brewing continues to infuse traditional recipes with modern ingredients from around the world, crafting high-quality and consistent craft beer out of respect for the hardworking folks who enjoy our beer.
And because we’re independently owned and operated, we get to make craft beer our way. That means relying on natural carbonation, protecting the foam, and celebrating the true dance between malts, hops, water, and yeast. It means protecting the environment, supporting the community and the arts, being kind to animals, and always having one more beer with our friends and family even if we’re already late for rotary club. It means drinking our beer fresh and cold, because warm storage turns good beer to shit. And it means never settling for “good enough,” always pulling the goalie when we’ve got a chance to win, swinging for the fences, and never, ever forgetting where we come from. Grain country represent.

12 ounce bottle thanks to khoffman43. Pours a clear ruby color with a medium tan head. A nice nose of floral hops and caramel. The flavor is a sweet earthy caramel malt with light floral hops, a light bitter finish. Good.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear straw color with a medium white head. A sweet nose of citrus and honey. The flavor is a smooth decent Blonde: citrus, some earthy grains, light bitterness in the finish. Some almost tropical notes at times, the lengthy dry earthiness is a bit rough. Decent.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear yellow color with a medium white head. A sweet nose of grains and some honey. A clean smooth flavor with light hop bitterness, some perfume, corn, very grainy and quite smooth and to style. Leaves with a dry bite of hops and earth. Good.

10 oz mug draft pour at Next Door Pizza in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. The pour is a lightly hazed golden with not much of a white head. The aroma is hop sweet citrus, some hay, and a light amount of cereal malt. The taste is light, crisp citrus hops, the grass and a light resin bitterness. Malt is present, but very much underneath the crisp hops. The palate is light bodied, soft carbonation, crisp and refreshing. Nice easy drinking refreshing beer.

Tap at OBF. Pours dark amber with a big beige head. Aroma of darkish fruit like raisin/date. Med + body. Flavor is malty, dark sugar. Not too much spice; some noble hop. Surprisingly dry finish.

On Tap at 3 Squares restaurant in Maple Grove. Gold color and no head on this one. Big hop aroma immediately. Flavor is very dry with some flowery, but mostly bitter hops. I would bet this is the highest IBU from Summit yet. A good ipa, with hops up front.

Perfect ruby tinted copper coloured body with a hint of bronze and a very thin, oily tan head that fades very fast. Aroma of bread, yeast, toffee, malt, bananas, alcohol and a hint of molasses. Medium-bodied; Nice chewy mouthful at first with a strong malty flavour tucked in with the banana and toffee sweetness and a good full-flavoured finish which shows yeast, alcohol warmth, nuts and a hint of toffee. Aftertaste is subtle yet complex with the yeast notes playing the hardest, some banana sweetness and a bit of curacao or something citric. Overall, a well crafted dunkels with a complex finish, subtle yet powerful flavour and a good look. Find this if you can, because it’s a good drink and perhaps even better when comparing it up against the style. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 28-May-2012 for US$1.45 sampled at home in Washington on 26-July-2012.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy bright golden color with a medium sized foamy white head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet, tangy and yeasty with notes of honey and candied golden fruits. The flavor was sweet sugar, tangy bread, faint honey and pear. The finish was medium length tangy sugar and bread. Moderately full bodied. Solid.
