Description
Way back in 1986, before craft brewing was even cool, Summit Brewing Company Founder and President Mark Stutrud set out in St. Paul, Minnesota, to make craft beers inspired by old-world brewing traditions and ingredients. More than 30 years have passed since he first brewed our flagship Summit Extra Pale Ale, and it’s safe to say he freaking nailed it.
Today, Summit Brewing continues to infuse traditional recipes with modern ingredients from around the world, crafting high-quality and consistent craft beer out of respect for the hardworking folks who enjoy our beer.
And because we’re independently owned and operated, we get to make craft beer our way. That means relying on natural carbonation, protecting the foam, and celebrating the true dance between malts, hops, water, and yeast. It means protecting the environment, supporting the community and the arts, being kind to animals, and always having one more beer with our friends and family even if we’re already late for rotary club. It means drinking our beer fresh and cold, because warm storage turns good beer to shit. And it means never settling for “good enough,” always pulling the goalie when we’ve got a chance to win, swinging for the fences, and never, ever forgetting where we come from. Grain country represent.

12oz bottle. Amber-brown body, fluffy off-white head. A pretty respectable Amber ale all the way, nicely balanced. Steady caramel amber malt tones, balanced by a respectable melon tinged hop bill. Really nails the style, this is a beer many a brewpub should be envious of. Still grounded in mid-macro Summitiness, this is a surprise nonetheless. Recommended for amber lovers.

12 oz bottle from TheEpeeist poured into an Aventinus glass. Nose is bananas, clove, light sweetness and toffee, and pasty bread dough. Hazy rust with a medium beige head. Flavor is sweetness, white pepperiness, and bananas with a hint of background bitterness.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with medium beige head leaving spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is raisin and caramel. Thin mouthfeel with a light roast and caramel with sweet finish. A decent dunkel from Summit.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear dark yellow with about a half finger of white head. Aroma of a lot of pine and citrus. Taste is about the same. Loads of pine and citrus. Grapefruit and pineapple. Medium bodied with a thin yet slick texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, pretty good. I would drink this again.

12oz bottle. Filtered looking yellow-tan. Steady frothy white head. Brewhouse dirty malt aroma. Not bad for a straight up session beer whose only goal is looking better than macro swill. Zesty and sessionable, but sort of grounded in insipidity. A touch lemony, grainy, really doesn’t grow on me at all. Mild fruity ale tones.

Pour is a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is a nice citrus fruity hop with almost a peach aroma in there. Flavor is a nice hop resin that leaves a lasting sweet grapfruit on the tounge. This was a nice IPA and the six was on the cheaper side to boot.

12oz bottle. Filtered copper-tan. Frothy off-white head. Nice citrus forward hop aroma. Toasty and clean, this is almost more of a great APA than an IPA. Either way, really well done, well above par for Summit. Classic taste profile, not over the top, but well hopped and quite enjoyable.
