Description
Way back in 1986, before craft brewing was even cool, Summit Brewing Company Founder and President Mark Stutrud set out in St. Paul, Minnesota, to make craft beers inspired by old-world brewing traditions and ingredients. More than 30 years have passed since he first brewed our flagship Summit Extra Pale Ale, and it’s safe to say he freaking nailed it.

Today, Summit Brewing continues to infuse traditional recipes with modern ingredients from around the world, crafting high-quality and consistent craft beer out of respect for the hardworking folks who enjoy our beer.

And because we’re independently owned and operated, we get to make craft beer our way. That means relying on natural carbonation, protecting the foam, and celebrating the true dance between malts, hops, water, and yeast. It means protecting the environment, supporting the community and the arts, being kind to animals, and always having one more beer with our friends and family even if we’re already late for rotary club. It means drinking our beer fresh and cold, because warm storage turns good beer to shit. And it means never settling for “good enough,” always pulling the goalie when we’ve got a chance to win, swinging for the fences, and never, ever forgetting where we come from. Grain country represent.

12oz bottle. Slightly hazy orange-tan. Medium bodied. Slightly grainy, but with a solid enough hop bill to overcome. Soapy, orange, piny hops. Not really a great IPA, but a hell of an APA. Earthy, mild caramel tones. Somewhere between Unchained and regular Summit in terms or quality. Nice and sessionable, and a reasonable amount of grapefruit hop action. Toasty, clean golden malt. Solid beer.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel color with a large creamy tan head that lingered and left some lacing. The aroma was faint caramel and dryish vague fruity/floral hops. The flavor was bitter with faint fruity and floral hops and nothing else of note. The flavor quickly falls off a cliff to water. Light body. Disappointing.

Nice crisp clear amber and copper coloured body with a perfect, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of nuts, light spice, alcohol, caramel and a bit of toffee - nice smells. Medium-bodied; Strong potent spice and caramel kick with a lot of toasted malt, alcohol, nuts, earth, pumpkin pie spice and a good pungent toffee flavour. Aftertaste is quite strong with a lingering spicey taste, a bit of alcohol and a good malt presence. Overall, a nice marzen, one of the better i’ve had recently - with great complex flavours and a strong finish. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 04-September-2011 for US$1.45 sampled at home in Washington on 25-September-2011.

Nice bronze color and a tall head, lacing the glass. Well carbonated. Flavor has dry malt and grassy, herbal hops. Flavor is bitter for sure, hops are up front and dry, with a light malt base lending a little sweetness. A good ipa.

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into an English Pint. Pours a hazy gold with a little bit of white head. Aroma of hoppy citrus fruits and honey. Taste is very lightly sweet on the start and medium bitter on this finish. Slight aftertaste of honey. Medium bodied with a thick and creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a long bitter finish. Overall, a pretty damn good beer. Definitely worth seeking out for the try.
